nitter.net is currently replaced with a message about the C&D until zedeus (lead dev) gets legal advice on how to proceed. Other instances are probably ok for now (or at least until an API break). Not a great sign for anyone else who hosts it, but hopefully it gets resolved without development permanently stopping.

always remember to clone/mirror repositories in other places folks. Lawyers got onto Github and Github happily takes things down unless all of the internet comes to push back. Mirror your favorite projects to codeberg, forgejo, gitea, wherever. You never know when someone will be forced to take that project you love down.

As soon as I saw this I mirrored the repo here. Notably, the original repo is still up but it just got marked as archived.

If Lemmy has a retweet function, I'd retweet your comment. More people need to see this.

Yeah anytime I see code that I use that interacts with a third party I mirror it to be safe. Repos are small. Especially if the third party isn't a tech company, like most home assistant things. They are incredibly hostile and letigous against open source projects that have the audacity to make their products better.

Copy the link, go to your account on mastodon, put the link in the search, open this thread and retoot.

There's your retweet.

...It's the "copy" icon right next to the "star" icon on the thread minibar?

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 77 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Xcancel got the same treatment. Fuck em

[–] NGram@piefed.ca 34 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Please don't fuck Elon Musk, he's already got too many kids :P (and already mistreats some of them)

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 7 points 1 week ago

I'm pretty sure he can't get pregnant if I shove a taser-tipped baton up his butt and turn it on

[–] huquad@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But he's built like a cybertruck. How am I supposed to resist?

[–] prenatal_confusion@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago

Only improved by a Molotov cocktail.

Sounds like Elon's Bitter.

[–] DonutsRMeh@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Elonsbitter.net sounds like a good replacement to nitter

[–] Bongles@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago

Not a bad price either. Showed me 12 USD for the year on porkbun.

Is there an alternative you can selfhost?

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 9 points 1 week ago

No need for an alternative, it can be self hosted and (for now) the original repo is still up: https://github.com/zedeus/nitter

[–] MoogleMaestro@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 week ago

Uh oh, looks like someone's AI company is running out of money and needs people back on Twitter. 😭

[–] artyom@piefed.social 6 points 1 week ago

Imagine being so petty...

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Oh, isn’t bitter that site curating a list of content for building AI models? I seem to recall that and hope it works except then from any laws, right?

[–] NGram@piefed.ca 11 points 1 week ago

nitter is an alternative front-end/UI for X/Twitter

[–] autonomous@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago
