I didn't like Twitter enough to join it when it didn't cost $20.

I did always think it was stupid that he bought a site with pretty great branding (twitter/tweets/the bird graphics etc) and immediately got rid of most of that branding.

It seems like maybe the commenters here thus far are missing the (obvious from the title) fact that this is not affiliated with Musk or “X” at all? I admire the aggressiveness of this move and I’ll be rooting for them.

Seems pretty obvious it's not related to Musk or X. However, it's just another proprietary social network. We are all familiar with the pattern now. Proprietary network and investors eventually means enshitification.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 day ago

For $20? No thanks.

[–] arotrios@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago

The real power move here would be to grab the domain name and run a free Mastodon instance off of it.

[–] TheChargedCreeper864@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago

Should've been a Nitter instance

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 16 points 1 day ago

Doesn’t appear to be federated. No reason to leave Mastodon.
