Oh good, there's a name for it.

Good word.

A friend once referred to my place as 'The Fortress of Lassitude' and it's stuck ever since.

"Come over! My parents aren't home.

Can't. Must Latibulate."

[–] HeartyOfGlass@piefed.social 9 points 2 days ago

"What's taking so long? You better not be latibulating in there again"

[–] PrimeErective@startrek.website 14 points 2 days ago

I would guess it's closer to la-ti-byoo-layt

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 9 points 3 days ago

Not seeing any reference to "escaping reality" in any of the online dictionaries.

I'm mostly seeing it as withdrawing and sheltering from the outside world. Which I agree with the original that seems synonymous with escaping reality. (In a cultural aspect at least).

My first thought was Walden when I was trying to pick an example.

‘Hiding’ is interpreted fairly faithfully in the tweet, imo.

Replace "hide in a corner" with almost anything and it works just as well. We all do it, both consciously and unconsciously for most of the time we're alive.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Corner sold separately

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago

Holy shit, it's legit. Just looked it up

[–] Equinox1289@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Saying "hide in a corner" is easier and nearly as many syllables so I understand why it dropped.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 3 points 2 days ago

Ah yes, that's why we encode meaning into words, the syllable count. Explains why we speak tarball
