Petrol is super cheap, because the only thing you can really do with it is burn it for energy.

That and you waste 60-90 percent of that energy potential as heat.

Talking points have been distributed

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 1 points 55 minutes ago

Huh, they let Betty be a lesbian.

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 hour ago

Beep Boop beep I keep hearing people complain....

Saya terus-menerus mendengar orang mengeluh....

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

The focus on golf clubs tells me exactly the type of person this is. Also, my bike will transport my wife and clubs for a lot longer than 30 minutes on cheap Ramen lunch.

That is If I had golf clubs…

Or a bike…

And my wife may have left me...

Now I’m hungry for noodles.

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 2 points 34 minutes ago

I had some really good ramen last night at one of the conveyor belt sushi places.

Super expensive.

But good.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 17 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Has he tried HP printer ink?

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 10 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I find it too metallic to be a solid drink, but the price does make me feel fancy.

[–] Psaldorn@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Just a shot now and then, as a treat.

Have you ever, as a gag, ordered a single of expensive whiskey and shot it in front of the bar tender? Me either, I do that with cheap whiskey just fine.

EV charging stations should start putting up gas station style boards showing the current price per kWh. Not that a kWh of electrons gets you as far as a gallon of gas, but a substantial chunk of the population will see the smaller number and start thinking about switching.

[–] YoSoySnekBoi@kbin.earth 8 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I mean even then it is way cheaper compared to gasoline. Around me, EV stations charge ~$0.50/kwh (give or take) and gas is ~$4.50/gal. Assuming 5 mi/kwh and 25 mpg, that comes out to $0.10/mi on electric and $0.18/mi on gas. So in "gas prices", EVs cost ~$2.50/gal and that's assuming you don't do most of your charging at home, which takes it down to ~$0.08/kwh around me ($0.016/mi or $0.40/gal equivalent).

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

EVs get around 3-4 mi/kwh. Still better than gas by a little bit, but intentionally close to price matching.

[–] TheJesusaurus@piefed.ca 33 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

My bike gets like 100 miles per gallon of oatmeal

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 14 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

That can't be good for the fuel injector.

[–] FantasmaNaCasca@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Just don't put any additives or you will blow up the exhaust

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 33 points 5 hours ago (4 children)

Is this going to be another thread of people taking an obvious joke seriously

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago

Poe's law. It's not extreme enough. I can easily picture a maga using this logic to justify why Trump's middle east fuckup isn't all that bad.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 16 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

While it doesn't show the whole post, nothing about this screams obvious joke.

[–] Penguin_1024@piefed.zip 5 points 2 hours ago

I saw a Trump supporter in a very red area of the U.S. share this or a very similar thing sincerely. He didn't think it was a joke.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 2 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Literally the entire thing screams obvious joke.

[–] hendrik@palaver.p3x.de 5 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

I once got an F in school for pointing out the text was an obvious joke 😂 It wasn't. Turns out people in that time period were really stupid. (Guess that also holds true for modern times. Maybe even more so.)

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 11 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I think we have different definitions of obvious.

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)
[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Dude, I've got the 'tism; I think this is largely a media literacy issue.

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

If that’s the case then I think Lemmy has some of the worst media literacy per user that I’ve ever seen in one space online. Minus maybe Facebook

[–] sepi@piefed.social 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Media literacy around the world is in shambles, not just in some dumb corner of the internet.

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 1 points 42 minutes ago* (last edited 42 minutes ago)

In this case I’m specifically referring to detection of satire and sarcasm

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

Oh, I happen to agree.

[–] huquad@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 hours ago

I know people who post this unironically. They are too far gone

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 22 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

... whie just a few microliters of LSD can transport you across the ENTIRE UNIVERSE

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

They say DMT feela like loading the Universe into the cannon and shooting yourself with it.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 4 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

DMT is IMO not a "recreational" drug. The few times I've done it, it was a shitload of mental and emotional work to keep up with. Definitely alternate realities though -- LSD lets you wander into otherworldly thoughts; Psilocybin lets you visualize them vividly; DMT slams them into your sensory apparatus like a brick wrapped in lemon

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 18 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Truly spoken like someone with too much disposable.

More and more people can't afford the wine or the fancy coffee, or the gasoline to get to the fancy restaurant, or the time to eat out after working their two jobs, or the 4000-lb SUV to pour the gasoline into, because they need their old banger and the gasoline to haul their ass to work to earn enough to pay rent, utilities and a bit more gasoline to stay on the hamster wheel for one more month - month after month.

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

This. And the other consideration they aren't factoring in is that the cost of gasoline makes everything else more expensive, too.

Based on what I know of wine, a $9/glass varietal is on the lower end of quality today, but that was about average a few years ago. My recollection is that a cheap wine would have gone for $5/glass in 2010. The Two Buck Chuck that we bought by the case in college now costs almost $5.

The wine hasn't gotten any better. But it costs more to move that wine by truck to the store, so the price goes up. It costs more to manufacture the bottles and power the equipment they use to process the grapes. It costs more to harvest and transport the grapes in the first place. It's a chain of price increases down the line that all add up with the cost of gas.

Wages haven't meaningfully increased at a comparable rate either. Even if you're earning a bit more now on paper than you were 5-10 years ago, everyone's purchasing power has dropped significantly. Even if prices of certain goods haven't gone up that much, I have to think a lot more about my spending today than I used to.

[–] fubarx@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

By that logic, the most cost-effective fuel would be a little baggie of shrooms.

For less than $10, it will transport him 20-light-years to another realm of existence, where he can have afternoon tea and crumpets with a friendly Narwhal named Gershwin, lounging under a rainbow.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 1 points 3 hours ago

friendly Narwhal named Gershwin

You've met him, too?

[–] red_tomato@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

I rather drink a glass of wine than 2 gallons of gasoline.

[–] MolochHorridus@piefed.social 0 points 1 hour ago

Makes sense though.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 4 points 4 hours ago

oh are the americans whining aboit the price of their state-sanctioned harf-price fuel again

must be a day with an a in it

[–] socsa@piefed.social 4 points 4 hours ago

What happens to the other half of the junk in his trunk?

[–] stopforgettingit@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

think of how much money the gas companies could make if they switched to selling coffee for fuel instead of gas - wait guys, am I on to something here

[–] Emi@ani.social 2 points 5 hours ago

And here I was hoping it would be about how wasteful those huge cars are.
