Call me crazy, but I'd actually like some more "regular every-day people" to be representing their constituents in congress. Granted, there are a lot of shitty regular every-day people, Tommy Tuberville as an example.
College football coaches in public universities are nearly always the highest paid public employee in their state.
This was not a "regular, every day" person. It's an act to get votes.

He was all worried about Furries flying planes and being flight attendants.
On the show Pluribus, when aliens take over almost everybody except for a few, like the Protagonist, she gets on a plane that's being flown by a young woman in a TGIF uniform, and it shakes her up a bit. It taught the aliens that they should have their pilots wearing real pilot gear.
So if I get on a plane, and there's a furry in the pilots seat, yeah, I'm going to question it, but if he's a fully qualified, experienced pilot, then I'm taking my seat. I don't care what his religion is.
But that's a problem I'm going to deal with when it comes up, when I step into a plane, and the pilot is dressed like a gorilla or something. I'm definitely not voting over this particular issue.
