At a rally in Nebraska Tuesday night, President Trump told his supporters exactly what he thinks about the well-being of the American people.

Trump first said that the price of goods and services, which have gone up thanks to his ill-advised Iran war and tariff policies, were “just a little bit high. It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe—keeping our country safe.

“They can take out a city. Let them take, let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay,” Trump said. “And it’s going to be over with very soon. It’s essentially almost over with.”

Conservative activists have argued that Trump didn’t really mean that losing the two cities is a “small price to pay,” but that he was referring to high gas prices. In that generous interpretation, Trump was arguing that his war, which has killed scores of civilians in the Middle East and an estimated 23 U.S. soldiers, is preventing Iran from waging large scale attacks on American cities. But Iran’s targets during the war have been U.S. installations in the Middle East, and it wasn’t targeting American cities before the war either.

California leaders, however, have taken his words at face-value.

Advocating for the mass death of his own citizens?

treason

The betrayal of allegiance toward one's own country, especially by committing hostile acts against it or aiding its enemies in committing such acts

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 31 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Trump v. United States, 603 U.S. 593 (2024) (holding that presidential immunity from criminal prosecution presumptively extends to all of a president's "official acts" – with absolute immunity for official acts within an exclusive presidential authority that Congress cannot regulate such as the pardon, command of the military, execution of laws, or control of the executive branch).

It's still treason. They've just removed judicial/ legal remedies. Leaving only...

Law does not make right.

[–] macaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Trump isn’t acting in an official capacity.

I think he is, by default. But there’s an argument to made that he has no capacity to act…

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Stack this one on the treason pile.

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 6 points 6 days ago

Yep, going to need a mountain soon enough.

Iran could take out the president, the supreme court, and all of congress. It's a small price to pay.

Price? Net benefit…

Conservatives hate their perceived domestic opposition more than they hate the country they entered into an unprovoked war with.

If you watch the video clip of him saying that, the crowd enthusiastically cheers.

[–] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They're cultists. These people would cheer at literally anything.

American conservatives pose a much greater threat to the average American than any other group on the planet does.

to be completely fair i'm totally fine with florida falling into the ocean, however non-moron non-climate change-deniers have plenty of time to get out

however non-moron non-climate change-deniers have plenty of time to get out

Some of them do. Some of them are children, and some of them are financially trapped.

Wait, does "POTUS totally fine with virus destroying cities full of people he doesn't like" not count? 'Cause I've had that square on the board filled in for six years already.

[–] gjoel@programming.dev 18 points 6 days ago

Just a reminder that that Denmark still has an offer for California, and we would not suggest a foreign power take out any part of it.

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 14 points 6 days ago

This is partly why I dislike when people, particularly on Reddit, dismiss any and all far right talk as Russian bot troll farms.

This was live in front of real flesh and blood US citizens who cheered.

[–] dizzle18@lemmy.zip 17 points 6 days ago

I would love to know how one interprets those comments as being somehow related to gas prices. But it’s hard for me to get in that mindset, seeing as my mother refrained from smoking meth while pregnant with me. And what’s really sad is that Iran would never even consider taking out any American city. Because we live in a world where the fucking Ayatollahs are the voice of reason in global politics.

Imagine saying like 15% of the U.S. economy or whatever Cali is is a small price to pay. He is stupid as shit.

EDIT: I was just guessing but was close, it's apparently 14%.

[–] unspeakablehorror@thelemmy.club 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Ya I'm sure iran would really rather nuke us here in California than Nebraska. We have a huge Iranian population and love them just as much as anyone else. My kid's closest friend is Iranian American and goes to Farsi school on the weekend. Go fuck yourself Nebraska. Keep saluting the Ten Commandments or whatever the hell u ppl do out there.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

We salute the Menards logo like God intended.

[–] Cheebus@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Wtf does Nebraska bring to the economic table? You fuckers need us.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Wtf does Nebraska bring to the economic table?

Corn, corn, and . . . more corn?

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 10 points 6 days ago

I would prefer Iran to take out Mar-A-Lago, followed by every conservative leader. Because, let's be frank, the war was caused by those dickheads.

[–] Ledivin@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

I hope Iran takes out the White House and Congress. A small price to pay for a better world.

[–] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 9 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

He's wanting a green light nuke and rally the right. Disgusting fucking treasonous criminal.

He needs to be noosed asap. Or guillotined.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

Even by Republicans standards, he is quite the asshole. And that's saying a lot.

Iran isn't interested in attacking dem states, they'd rather aim for Donald/republicans since their the real aggressors

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Iran isn’t interested in attacking dem states, they’d rather aim for Donald/republicans since their the real aggressors

That logically makes sense, but I wouldn't expect that subtlety to be recognized by Iran. It's all America. I mean, do we, in mass, recognize the regional differences in opinion from around Iran? No. To the average person, it's all Iran.
