New York — New York’s mayor marked the third anniversary of Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel on Wednesday with a statement that has sparked backlash among some Jewish leaders.
In his statement, Mayor Zohran Mamdani acknowledged the “horrific war crimes of October 7” while also accusing Israel of committing war crimes and genocide in Gaza.

The mayor was met with boos as he arrived at a vigil in remembrance of October 7 on Wednesday night in Union Square, video from CNN affiliate WABC showed. He is set to attend a meeting with Palestinian New Yorkers following the vigil, according to his public schedule.

“This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss,” Mamdani wrote in his statement.

Where are all those people who were trying to shit talk about him because he didn't say genocide enthusiastically enough in an interview once before. You can call terrorists terrorists and genocide genocide without any contradictions.

He draws ire from genocidal maniacs and racist jerks and weapons contractors. Everyone else is like yeah, that genocide is shit, gotta stop supporting that shit.

The man who beats kittens daily is outraged that people accused him to be an animal abuser on the 3rd anniversary of the time a cat scratched him.

[–] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (34 children)

Israel shot Israelis on Oct 7th.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Israel hasn't killed that many Hamas in retaliation but they have killed 1000x more Palestinians after October 7 and even long before then and there's plenty of video evidence to support his statement and a lot of it is self incriminating.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If you look at the age distribution of Palestinians that died since then, it is pretty similar to the demographic which is what you would get if you indiscriminately bombed a country.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

It's called having a backbone. For all of the whining and bitching from people about how politicians are bought and have no backbone, observe what that actually looks like and kindly eat shit if you don't like it.
