These people don't do their own shopping. Anything they say about groceries is most likely wrong. Fucking hell Trump didn't even know the word groceries until a while back.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 57 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I mean, it was hilarious when Poppy was amazed by grocery scanners, but donnie going on about the word "groceries", sounding like an alien in a skin suit is 1000x that.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

These people are so completely out of touch it’s painful.

Anybody that wants to be president should go through a mandatory 6 month immersion course where they have to live on 40k a year in middle America. Don’t even make it difficult where they’d also have to support a spouse and two kids on that income. Oh, and make them work a retail job that’s at least 30 min from home. And they have to drive a 15 year old American car as well. Heck turn it into a reality tv show. Call it something like “Really Presidential” or “The Real Candidates of DC”

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'd be down to watch this. Give RFK a 1br apartment on the sketchy side of town, an old Toyota Camry where the CEL won't turn off (but you're sure it's just an O2 sensor, ignore it for now), and a job 40 minutes away where you're pretty sure they're not gonna fire you but you're definitely not getting a pay raise any time soon. For extra fun, let's throw $40k worth of student loans on there.

I wonder how even the ones that grew up in something like this, like JD Vance, would be able to cope.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

40K in middle America is probably much easier because cost of living is cheaper. I’m assuming you mean living in literally the middle of the US like Kentucky or something? Middle America is technically Mexico and Central America.

40K in NYC, SF, Chicago, etc would probably be a better learning experience than 40K in Kentucky.

[–] duckshuffgoose@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

That'd be the best part of this show. We've all lived on less. Let's watch them have it mediocre and absolutely struggle and drown

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I was thinking somewhere like rural NC but yes middle of the US.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I honestly wish they would take Trump into a supermarket to buy stuff. Or maybe use the self-checkout. That would be some amazing comedy show.

"Everything's computer!"

[–] lawks@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Close, it's "Everything's computer!" You can check the White House Auto Mall commercial.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Oh, right! Haha, love that.

Beautiful word though isn't it? Groceries. Everything that you eat

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 1 day ago

I do my own shopping and I have no idea how much things like butter or milk cost. I know they don't cost enough to affect how much I spend on food overall but how much exactly? No idea. Maybe it's 1€, maybe it's 3€ 🤷 With most things I look at the price and if it's not something crazy I buy it and forget about it.

She has unleashed untold evils on society. From "doctor" Phil, to John of God, she sells evil wrapped up in a package that housewives just can't resist.

[–] crystalmathadept@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Like that time she unleashed all those bees?

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 2 points 2 days ago

If only she'd released a native swarm!

[–] Marins_Ballad@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Anyone from PA will remember him shopping at Wegners for his “crudité”. This is no surprise

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Part of me wishes he would have won. Then the dnc could have someone else run to replace him instead of being stuck with fetterman.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

To clarify we're "stuck with Fetterman" because a Senate term is 6 years and we're at about 4 years. A 2/3rds vote by the Senate could remove him, but that hasn't actually happened successfully since the Civil War and he's not in enough hot water to force him to resign.

It would shock me if he got the nomination in 2028, but stupid is trend at the moment.

Eh… Fetterman was the better choice. Too bad there’s no mechanism to recall our shit politicians.

Either way he’s toast. Dems won’t vote for him and he’s got way too many liberal sound bites from his past that the GOP won’t vote for him either.

I do feel for his wife, who has been silent ever since the stroke.

Yeah I immediately thought of this LOL, thanks.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Not to give this admin any credit, but he isn't wrong. He said $1 per stick, not per pound. I can get a Kroger 4 stick pack for $3.49 at my local store.

[–] phar@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (11 children)

But he was holding a PACK of butter as his example

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

This is honestly a nothingburger gotcha. He's actively lying about the cost of living, and I'm glad that someone at Fox has the courage to call him out on it, but this is a confusing and easily-explained-away example; "he was just holding up the pack to demonstrate what he was talking about, obviously he meant a stick!" They should do the price of gas instead.

Yeah, I buy good butter and it's less than a dollar fifty per stick.

The real crazy part about this is that butter is actually at like an all time low right now. The protein craze has made a great big market for wey protein wich used to just be a byproduct of making butter. So now there's a bunch of butter back stock which should lower the prices drastically.

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

I wonder if he puts butter on his crudite?

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

A stick in a box like that is about a dollar but the box contains 4 sticks, what an idiot.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I mean, he did say a stick of butter is about a buck. A pound (4 sticks) is a little under $4 for me. So yeah, that checks out. Yeah, you almost always have to buy 4 sticks at a time but that also means you don't have to buy 4x as often (and butter keeps plenty long in the fridge).

I feel dirty for defending Oz, but this is pretty dumb to get worked up over. The dumbest part is using a unit that's common for use, but not for purchase. Which... Meh.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The video in the article shows him pointing to the unopened box/pound and saying "this stick".

I mean, he did say a stick of butter is about a buck

No he didn’t. He just said “butter is a dollar”. He never specified “stick”

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 5 points 3 days ago

He did but not in the way the other user implies. The video in the article shows him pointing to the unopened box/pound and saying "this stick".

i've got one pound left in the freezer of what i got the last time it was 'on sale' for 99c/lb--almost two years ago, i think.. it had been a very long time since it was that low, and i stocked up a lil bit. this is the midwest, where there's lots of cows. low dairy prices used to be quite common.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

OK Oz, here's lesson #1 for ya. Nothing costs a buck.
