[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 1 points 24 minutes ago

I'm just throwing it out there that this is how the US used to deal with those who were traitors to the country...

So.... Yeah. (Not the televised part though lol I know y'all gonna jump on that)

[–] norealme@lemmy.world 1 points 44 minutes ago

Can we execute pete hegseth? And donald trump?

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

I’m a no-death penalty absolutist, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think there are people who deserve to die. Hasan probably does, and Hegseth does too; I don’t want see Hegseth die, but it wouldn’t break my heart if some Iranian special forces kidnapped him and administered their own brand of justice.

Why do you think trump is trying to shut down the international criminal court?
He can pardon them all in the usa but they will never be able to leave the country.

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 22 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Idk Ol Bibi is jetting around without a care in the world.

[–] bitteroldcoot@piefed.social 14 points 3 hours ago (3 children)

Every country he flew through recently either was selling Israel massive amounts of weapons. or actively buying Israel weapon systems.

And Bibi is still president, as is trump, and they have diplomatic immunity. At some point they won't be in office. Then the tune changes.

Unfun fact the American Service Members Protection Act which was passed under Bush Jr when the ICC being established, specifically allows for the US to protects israeli (and other) government officials from the ICC.

Diplomatic immunity would be moot hereif they were in an ICC signatory country, even if France wants to pretend otherwise 🤷‍♀️

Edit cause I hit enter too fast. This law survived 3 Democrat presidential terms. Maybe they can get around to changing it next time.

At some point they won't be in office. Then the tune changes.

I sincerely hope so.

Same with Masoud Pezeshkian and Mojtaba Khamenei , right?

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 14 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Eh I’m ok without state sanctioned violence. Maybe just lock them up in the centers they created?

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

Oh ot won't be state sanctioned. Mandated and sanctioned by the masses.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 3 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Ok, I shouldn't say this, but members of the military are not innocent. They are combatants, by definition.

Idk what this guy is about, or whatever, but killing military members is not killing civilians.

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 2 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

I don't understand this comment - I think the tweet in the post says children. Am I missing something?

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I was under the impression this was referencing the guy that shot up that army base or whatever, killed like 13 of them.

I am not condoning that, not at all, just pointing out the OP is full of shit in implying they are non combatants, or whatevver drivel he or she said to that effect.

OH.

That makes so much more sense. Thank you for clarifying.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Wait Tweet? What social media are you seeing this on. I don't patronize twatter, and their posts are twatts by the way.

Way before musk, the nazi cosplaying cunt, bought twatter, it was already shit, and Israel's bitch.

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

You're right I said tweet. It's a blue sky post that is the image for this post. My mistake.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 1 points 54 minutes ago

Twatt, get it right. But thanks.

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 0 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 55 minutes ago) (1 children)

That's not actually true. For it to be true and relevant, Hasan would have to have been an overt agent or officer of an enemy nation. To justifiably kill American service members, he would have to be an enemy combatant. If he were an enemy combatant, the service members he killed would also be considered combatants, and his attack would simply be an act of war. He could not be held or tried as a criminal. He would be entitled to all privileges and protections afforded to Prisoners of War. He could be held without trial until the cessation of hostilities between the belligerent countries, and then repatriated. He could not face charge or punishment for having killed combatants.

But he was not an overt enemy officer. He was an officer of the United States, acting on his own and not as an overt agent of a hostile state. His status was not "enemy combatant". The personnel he killed would not be considered "combatants" in this act; they would be considered innocent victims of a criminal act. No different than civilian victims. Hasan was not a combatant, and could take no actions as a combatant, lawful or otherwise.

Enemy states can lawfully kill military service members as an act of war. Random individuals cannot. The random individual cannot claim that his victims were combatants. The random individual cannot claim the protections of POW status. To that individual, his victims are innocent adults.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 1 points 58 minutes ago (1 children)

Bro, I tried to read this, you accused hasan of shit, I think you are fake. Fake. You.

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 1 points 50 minutes ago (1 children)

What?

It is only under the Laws of Armed Conflict ("LOAC") that the "combatant" distinction arises, but you clearly do not understand LOAC.

For LOAC to apply, there would have to be an enemy state involved, and Hasan would have to be an overt officer of that state. But there was no enemy state, and Hasan was an officer of the US.

Without LOAC to give his victims the status of "combatant", they are innocent. Their status as military members is irrelevant; there is no relevant distinction between them and "civilians".

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 1 points 38 minutes ago

Wtf are you on about, stop murdering littel kids. And adults.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 11 points 4 hours ago

I'm not at all keen on watching executions but I'd watch that one.

[–] 104goodbuddy@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Fellas, his name is Peterape Kegsbreath

[–] RFKJrsBrainworm@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

What about the boats? Those lives count too

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 hour ago

The fishermen are mentioned in the OP. The boats themselves were not alive.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

The man himself wants to die. His body, his choice.
