Are transgender people no longer an effective scapegoat for the GOP? One Texas Republican leader says attacks on gender identity are falling flat in Lone Star State elections.

Former Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan told Texas Monthly that Republicans focused too much on culture war issues this election cycle and are paying the price. “We’re just not paying attention to the issues that matter,” he said.

Wasting resources to persecute a tiny minority of people who barely make up a portion of the population, is always a waste and has always been fascist MO. Nazi Germany's Holocaust and massacre of Slavs was a waste of time resources as well. Those millions killed by the Nazis could have been useful to actually fight Bolshevism if they really wanted it. The Ukrainians welcomed the Germans as liberators when they invaded. But what did the Germans do? Killed the Ukrainians. Of course, this only made the Bolsheviks only seem less of a bad guy for the Ukrainians, which made the latter welcome back the Soviets.

Silly propagandists, they have failed to link Trans people to high prices.

I have a theory about this.

So we know the world is kind of sort of run by wealthy rapists who control the media and try to influence culture to normalize SA and the objectification of women.

I think those same people are the primary group that doesn’t want trans people to exist.

I think rapists enjoy thinking of womanhood as an affliction, not a choice. It makes their mentality more comfortable.

That view is twisted and inaccurate, because consent matters and gender dysphoria is not a choice… but I never said they were intelligent.

Trans people threaten the mentality of rapists.

Idk it's literally all my republican coworkers talk about, im not in texas tho

It goes without saying that he would be 100% on board if it did work.

These pricks don't care about right and wrong, they only crave power; he's only upset that jingling keys in front of reactionary voters isn't as successful when people are 20% poorer than last cycle.

I was always wondering why they had such an emphasis on this not problem. I understand that some backwards people are uncomfortable with the idea, because it vastly exceeds the limits of their minds, but would any woman actually notice when a transgender woman was sitting in the next toilet stall? Has any transgender woman in sport actually made a noticable difference there, at least at the top?

[–] TVA@thebrainbin.org 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

They're not trying to invoke the boogyman of the transgender woman quietly using the restroom, they're trying to invoke the fear of a man hiding in plain sight in the restroom ready to rape your children the second they're alone with the child.

Pretty much always!

Meanwhile centrist Democrats were certain Kamala Harris lost because she wasn't anti-trans enough and the future of the party was piling onto bathroom and sports bans.

Yes. Some Democrats are just as much our enemy as Republicans. Not everyone running under the D label is actually a Democrat.

[–] 3abas@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

At some point, maybe you'll recognize the party itself is the problem, and the good democrats are bound to serve the party by backtracking on their positions and dragging their supporters right with them.

The democrat party is a capitalist neo-liberal fascist party, they're just not open about it and like to cosplay as opposition.

The rich have a long list of other marginalized people they will con stupid people into hating as a smokescreen for them to raid this countries treasury and future.

[–] jim_v@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Who do you think will be the next scapegoat? I hope it's people that wear sandals and socks.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Good. Most normal American don't GAF about all this. Most of us are like...um, trans rights are human rights, no shit, time to move on.

It's not normal for people with no skin in the game to constantly obsess endlessly about another group like the trans. The type of person that does just comes off like gigantic losers and so very unserious.

[–] Murse@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Relentlessly attacks the rights of subset of US citizens.

Criticized for 'not resonating'.

"Yo Hittler, could you ease up on the whole murdering Jewish people thing? The rest of the globe isn't really vibing with it."

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

He's criticizing the target, not the tactic. Maybe something more racist since his constituents have actually seen and been scared of a black person.

[–] PedroMaldonado@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Classic fascist playback. Blame an outsider to distract.....that's us, folks! falling for it since...well forever.

[–] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago

I would venture a guess that the Republican base for the most part hasn't encountered a trans person, but they have encountered $120+ refueling of their giant monster trucks and grocery bills being twice what they were 10 years ago. But hey those 1% raises at work make them grateful to have a job. Sure is surprising their message is resonating.

[–] anasofia214@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Then again, only one tepublican is saying it, probably to see the respone.

[–] Aaron@lemmy.nz 1 points 10 hours ago

One former Republican. I was so shocked to see it until I saw he wasn't in office any longer.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago

I wasn't anti-trans but then Ken Paxton sent seven (yes, literally 7) mailers about how Talafreako likes them and now I hate them!

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

Their rabid hatred knows no bounds. I doubt they care if it resonates, they're drunk on that sweet, sweet hate dopamine.
