Elon Musk has reportedly injected around $77 million into his America PAC in the first half of October alone

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has pumped more than $445 million into Republican campaigns ahead of the midterm elections, according to a report.

The GOP has been forced to contend with grim polling ahead of the midterms, with Democrats surging in polls across the country amid public anger over the war in Iran and the cost of living.

Musk, among the richest people in the world, has become increasingly tied to the GOP in recent years - even overseeing the Trump administration’s DOGE scheme before dramatically exiting the White House.

Be scared motherfucker. Be fucking terrified. You're done.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 11 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Thats 445 million we could have taxed at incredibly high rates if we closed the stupid borrowing against shares until you die because your so wealthy loophole.

That could have required billions with a high enough tax rate.

Would he have still done it then?

Edit: shit, Im wrong if that counts as a donation and is tax deductible:(

Esit: actually im not fully wrong if its tax deductible. If for example he had to sell 2 billion to get 445 million, he'd only get to write off that 445 million. That'd still be 1.1 billion in taxes.

I love when they spend a fortune, but lose anyway.

[–] sportsjorts@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

Deport this fuck to jail!

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 21 hours ago

Imagine being so stupid to think politics is a sound investment.

[–] Bloodyhog@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Why is it not here yet?!

[–] abc@suppo.fi 3 points 23 hours ago

Still gonna lose.

[–] rogsson@piefed.social 76 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Remind me again why politics and ~~donations~~ bribe money isn’t illegal

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 64 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Clearance Thomas wanted an rv

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Pardon me, but isn't it Uncle Clearance Thom.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Uncle Tom Clearance - democracy in exchange for an RV and a fishing trip (and in reality, likely something darkly sexual that we dont fully know about yet, if you know his past)

[–] voidsignal@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

it mostly is. everywhere else.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

C'mon people! Prove to the world that elon can't just browse the world to purchase politicians. Make him lose some of that chump change he's callously throwing around! Bring seriously thinking adults back into the fold again!

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 79 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Therefore, one of the best ways to troll Elon Musk is to vote Democrat.

Spread the word.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

You don't even have to like them! Just vote against Republicans ever having power again. At the moment, that's Democrats. But fuck, we need election reform and to get rid of "first past the post" voting...

Remember when he said curing world hunger was just a money problem and calculated it to be far less than his current net worth?

Pepperidge Farms remembers

[–] abc@suppo.fi 1 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

curing world hunger was just a money problem and calculated it to be far less than his current net worth?

Everyone here knows that none of this is true, right? Right?

[–] kaotic@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

Putting that into perspective someone fairly well off ($100k/year income, and for the sake of round numbers let’s say this person has assets worth $1 million [home, car, etc.]) that would the the same as this imaginary person spending around $500. Less than the cost of a new smartphone.

Fucking tax the rich.

[–] kurmudgeon@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The sad part is, this is peanuts to him and a complete waste of money.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Half a billion here, half a billion there, and pretty soon we're talking about real money.

[–] blackberry28@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

This mf is a trillionaire. Half a billion is 0.05% of his wealth.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Seriously, lets put this dude's wealth into perspective.

If you have $10,000 in the bank, this is like donating $5.

If you have $100,000 in the bank, this is like donating $0.50.

If you have $1,000,000 in the bank, this is like donating a fucking nickel.

That's how small and meaningless $500,000,000 is to him.

And let's be clear, now, inflation is so high that being a millionaire isn't the sign of extraordinary wealth it used to be. It's owning a house in the 'burbs and having a modest 401k. And disparity is so high that I'm sure a fair number of people reading this are saying "I wish I had $10k in the bank....".

We shouldn't even call it "donating". That makes it sound selfless and helpful. It's not. This is investing. He invested $500,000,000 into politicians, and if it pays off, it willl pay off big for him.

Nothing about this should be legal or acceptable.

That math isn't mathing.

If the amount you have in the bank goes up, the donation should also go up.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

Is a joke, mate. U.S. Senator Everett Dirksen said about government spending, "a billion here and a billion there and pretty soon you're talking about real money," to mock how detached politicians and governments (and Elon Musk) can be from the economic reality of everyday people.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 23 hours ago

he's actually not. paper wealth and real money are not the same thing.

$500M is lot of money for him, but he knows if the GOP get kicked out, he's going straight to jail.

[–] abc@suppo.fi 1 points 23 hours ago

The people making those ads are gonna get that money though.

[–] FrogCat@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago

Rich people pump money into politics in order to amplify their personal whims. Then they wonder why self-described socialist politicians are becoming more popular.

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 28 points 1 day ago

Is he afraid there will be some consequence?

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This muskrat guy is genuinely just evil at this point.

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 day ago

Financial obesity is neurotoxic, an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.

Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but trillionaires should be forced to transition into billionaires, and billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.

[–] geneva_convenience@thelemmy.club 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Wait billionaire is evil? Nobody could have seen this coming?

[–] TechnicallyWrite@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

If Billionaires are evil, what are Trillionaire$?

[–] geneva_convenience@thelemmy.club 1 points 21 hours ago

A thousand times more evil I guess

[–] Stormy@thelemmy.club 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

This is what they came up with for today in one the the Texas runnings that he's overly invested in controlling. Because yanno, he moved all his shit here and has a compound where he keeps his concubines and the unfortunate kids of his.

It's genuinely pathetic.

Radical. Like, totally tubular. Far out, man.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That is so shit it doesn't even involve an emotion in besides mild confusion and bafflement. That's a new one, it's not even bad enough to be funny. Aight there's the emotion, I now want to butcher someone for wasting materials on that.

The hilarious thing about this, if there is one, is that Republicans are all fucking criminals and grifters and a not-insignificant portion of this half a billion dollars is going into pockets everywhere.

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

“Spacex CEO and wannabe pedophile Elon Musk…”

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

I wish someone would just off him

[–] Naradae@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

But he refuses to pay taxes.

[–] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

$ 450 million. Such a MASSIVE number!!! Let that sink in, that it's "donations" so it'll become some tax write off, I'm sure. Still, such a crazy amount to go to waste!

However...

That's only 0.045% of his overall wealth... Sure, not his "income", but with a half billion tax write off, it's a win-win for him.

Wait til you hear how much he pumped into rigging the results

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why doesn’t he just go on fucking vacation? Literally get a life.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

This is his life. He spends every day finding ways to steal more and more to enrich himself, to all our detriment. He doesn't need a vacation because he's never really working anyways. Dude needs to be treated like the cancer he is. Eradicated by large doses of radiation.

[–] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

This is the lamest shit I could ever think about doing, if I had unlimited money…. How fuking lame is this dweeb?? He’s the literal definition of an L7🌭
