"Why can't we all get along?"

Hmm...maybe it's because one party denies science and views 60% of the country as subhuman, and the other party believes in science and equality? How the fuck are you supposed to reconcile those two?

This cartoon is relevant far too often.

It's easy - kill only half of the black people and the survivors get some civil rights.

Learn to compromise people /s

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

It was supposed to be a little over half somewhere between 1/2 and 7/10..... that's why they called it the 3/5 compromise.

"ok we'll let you keep the anti-vax and climate denial, but give up the flat earth. For the subhuman, how about just 40% are subhuman. See, we compromise!!"

We need to start shaming politicians who aim for being "bipartisan" and getting more politicians trying to be "nonpartisan"

Vote for your local independent

"We've reached across the aisle--"

To nazi pedophiles? Why?

I live in Missouri and I still remember the Dem nominee for the, I believe, Senate running ads about how he's what conservatives used to be or some shit. Like dude nobody who would support a conservative would vote for a Dem openly admitting to being part of the other side when they can just keep having Hawley.

"Can't we meet in the middle and have only half a genocide?"

Doesn't exactly apply to the US, but that's my go-to example for why centrism often means siding with the fascists.

edit: oh, that point was already made.

But riddle me this: why does it always seem to be the Democrats who float their willingness to compromise with Republicans?

[–] Xerxos@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 month ago

Somehow it's only the Democrats who compromise and the new normal wanders to the right.

Well, the dems are controlled opposition. The US is to far gone to change anytime soon.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well, the dems are controlled opposition.

A little fucking bizarre to say in response to almost 2/3s majority of people thinking that the Dems are resisting too much.

Maybe this country is just not as fucking left as Lemmy wants to think it is.

Well, if it isn't, then it deserves to burn.

When that poll asked Americans who is most to blame for a deal not being reached and subsequently causing the shutdown, they indicated Democrats in Congress and President Donald Trump were tied for most blame, while Republicans in Congress received the least amount of blame.

Welp, this country is going to get the healthcare it deserves apparently.
