An Israeli strike designed to free Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from house arrest in Tehran, U.S. officials said, was part of an effort to bring about regime change and put him in power.

Brian Morrissey, the department’s general counsel, stepped down hours after the Trump administration announced the $1.8 billion fund.

Probably because the Constitution says:

neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

The agent is the second federal officer to face felony charges in Minnesota stemming from Operation Metro Surge, the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

The Justice Department has announced the creation of a $1.776 billion fund to compensate people who “suffered weaponization and lawfare” as part of its settlement with President Trump in his suit against the Internal Revenue Service

In short, a slush fund for people who committed felonies and were prosecuted for it

This is more than the average fossil car owner pays in gas taxes, and really bad policy during a world fuel shortage.

Greenlandic officials worry about the direction of the negotiations aimed at defusing President Trump’s threats to seize their island. But they have little leverage.

Trump still wants lebensraum

In a dictatorship, competence is a threat to the dictator

Some people really like it, but not that many. Per the article:

Dividing votes (40) by location (215) gives the Cheesecake Factory—the restaurant that received the most total votes—a bestness rate of 0.19, or the equivalent of 19 votes per 100 restaurants. Lambert’s Cafe earns a bestness rate of 2.66—the equivalent of 266 votes per 100 restaurants. While imperfect, this method at least does not penalize restaurants for failing to be national chains—though, for the purposes of the poll, I accept all nominations at face value.

The military has long had some of it at particular facilities — the Air Force academy is notorious. But it's long been illegal, and was quite rare outside the military.

The number of people willing to carry food and water across the desert for a couple days, to be arrested while looking for nonexistent extraterrestrials is small.

Lots of better things to get arrested for.

Area 51 is both:

  • An actual military facility for testing experimental aircraft
  • Quite remote desert

This means that actually getting into it means:

  1. Being able to carry food and water long distances across inhospitable terrain
  2. Going to jail when you're caught

I don't recommend it.

The point of the article is that the families of immigrants tend not to have that kind of money

I'll also note that past attacks on detention facilities have failed to free people.

It just takes getting them out of power. That's attainable

It doesn't have to be that way; we could have a world where people don't need to fight over energy resources because wind and sunshine are everywhere.

In a close election, tipping a few tens of thousands of votes in the right state could in fact alter the outcome. So they'd target the closest swing state, and pick precincts with large minority populations.

The problem is that just standing around is going to intimidate a bunch of US citizens who have dark skin

As far as anybody can tell, he made the whole thing up. The sharpies for signing are real, but likely are standard sharpies that somebody silk-screened a logo onto.

I'll gladly take a win even when their motives are not pure
