Canadian manufacturing activity showed sustained output and new orders last month as the industry continued to expand, though data indicates recent growth may be driven by worries about prices and supplies.

The S&P Global Canada manufacturing purchasing managers index slipped to 52.9 in May. That marked a second successive month above the 50 threshold between expansion and contraction, after the index rose to 53.3 in April.

"Firms reported a general upturn in demand and success in securing new customers, despite ongoing anecdotal evidence that tariffs and the uncertainty caused by the war in Iran were weighing on product markets," Paul Smith, economics director at S&P Global Market Intelligence, said.

...

Still, Smith said the lift in performance on balance has likely been driven by customer efforts to secure goods due to concerns over price increases and product availability.

...

The pace of growth in production and new orders for Canadian manufacturers softened but remained above trend levels, S&P Global said. Its poll found that some companies reported an improvement in demand and success in securing new customers, though generally from domestic sources as new export orders were little changed over the month.

Has anyone migrated from CasaOS to ZimaOS?

Is it worth the migration? It seems like a lot of work, and maybe going in a more commercialized direction that I don't like.

Curious what other people's thoughts/experiences are.

Tesla has used about 12% of Canada’s first-window quota for Chinese-built EVs, the only automaker yet to move volume under the new system announced last January.

Global Affairs Canada data show 2,910 vehicles imported under the quota as of May 29, against a cap of 24,500 for the window that opened March 1 and runs to August 31.

The figures leave 21,590 permits available.

...

Car shipments from Shanghai adds roughly four to six weeks, so even permits filed on day one would not have landed cars much before mid-spring.

The 2,910 figure equals 11.9% of the window’s allocation, and competitors have yet to register a single unit.

At this pace, Tesla could claim a large share of the 24,500 ceiling before the window closes at the end of August.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson joked there may be a place for Canada in the European Union to join “like-minded” nations as “the most Nordic country in the world outside the Nordics.”

“European Union is obviously a matter of geography, you can hear that from the name,” Kristersson told CTV Question Period host Vassy Kapelos when asked for his opinion on comments by other world leaders that Canada should join the EU.

“But it is also a matter of values, and a matter of what countries would you like to integrate together with in different aspects,” he added, laughing. “So, it’s not for me to say, but the European Union is a very welcoming club for (the) like-minded.”

Finnish President Alexander Stubb made headlines last month when he commented on the possibility of Canada joining the EU. Asked by Kapelos about those comments during an interview on CTV Question Period at the time, Stubb said he wasn’t the one who raised the idea, but that he hopes Canada and the EU can “be as close as possible.”

“I would embrace you, because I think you guys are great, and you would slot into the system like nothing before,” Stubb said of the hypothetical scenario.

The State Financial Officers Foundation claims to be a nonpartisan, neutral body representing the guardians of state finances. In truth, the corporate donor–dependent nonprofit pushes a right-wing austerity agenda under the guise of fighting fraud.
