I'm starting to develop arthritis in my fingers, which makes typing an interesting challenge.

I'm wondering, what is the best self-hosted solution for speech-to-text generally? Dragon dictate use to be the thing, but is there anything open source, self-hostable that's superseded it?

I would love to be able to have something that I can speak into that can interact with pretty much any app, be that notepad++, or my web browser when I'm entering stuff or even when I'm creating this Lemmy post (which I actually made using futo voice on my phone).

Windows and/or Linux ideally.

Any leads? Getting old sucks.

In January 2025, a judge stayed assault and sexual assault charges against a Canadian Forces member after determining that military police had tampered with evidence and showed bias in their investigation. Superior Court of Ontario Justice Cynthia Petersen noted in her written decision that the misconduct by the CFNIS "in this case is so egregious and systemic that it shocks the community's conscience."

In June 2025, the MPCC issued a report that painted Canada's military police leadership as shutting down complaints and mismanaging investigations to the point where a criminal convicted of attempted murder almost went free.

In May 2025, the Texas App Store Accountability Act made it mandatory for companies like Apple and Google to verify the ages of their Texas-based users. As the law is set to be enforced starting Thursday, Apple has outlined an update to its App Store rules.

On the Apple Developer website, the company explained that new Apple Accounts in Texas will be subject to "age assurance and parent or guardian consent on behalf of minors under the age of 18 for downloads, Apple In-App Purchases, and significant changes associated with an app."

In practice, this means that anyone who wants to create an Apple Account in Texas must verify that they are 18 or older. Those under 18 will need to join a Family Sharing group, and parents will be able to revoke access to previously approved App Store apps.
