Y'all better be clearing the timer so it returns to clock mode afterwards

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 months ago

Our new one has the option to not have a clock and just be blank so it’s extra annoying when somebody leaves the timer on and the screen stays on blinking ‘cook time’.

[–] Oaksey@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’ve said it before, but they should have a time out option of say like 5 or 10 minutes, when it automatically goes back to standby.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I agree, but they don't.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I do NOT set the clock on my microwave. Damn ghostly lights keeping me up in the middle of the night.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

You sleep in your kitchen?

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Do you actually use your microwave to find out what time it is?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Uh, yeah, it's got a built-in clock.

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Mine does too but even though it (and my oven) tell the time I look at my watch, phone, or the dedicated clock in my living room

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 10 points 2 months ago

it's not just about the microwave returning to clock function. It's also about the microwave being returned to it's normal standby state so that pushing the buttons functions as expected for the next person.

  • I don't wear a watch, especially not while I'm busy in the kitchen
  • My phone is usually on my pocket, and it's easier to just turn my head than to reach into my pocket, pull out my phone, and turn it on. And also wash my hands if, again, I'm doing kitchen stuff in the kitchen.
  • The microwave is in the kitchen, which is a different room than the living room.

You sound way too reasonable. What's the catch?

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

My microwave and oven clocks are never correct because I don't use them.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That sounds like a "you" problem.

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I wear a watch so it's not a problem. Actually, what IS a problem is that my microwave is also a convection over / air fryer but they didn't put sufficient thermal insulation around the electronics/display, so the display is slowly getting cooked and the LED segments keep dying one after another. It's becoming difficult to see how much time is remaining when I cook stuff.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like your real problem is that you bought a piece of garbage.

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It was the highest rated microwave + convection oven I could find. Maybe a good one doesn't exist.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Most rating sites are just ads for garbage. I just buy all my appliances from Costco now since they tend to actually vet their products.

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Costco is great. I trust their stuff but I bought a ceiling fan from them and I'm about to return it. I'm glad they have a 90-day return policy.

[–] 200ok@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Is this a thing?!

Some of the LED segments on my 15-year-old microwave stopped working so now I can't tell the difference between 5s and 6s.

I figured the wiring was a dud and just came loose after so many years. Maybe I need to pull out my tinfoil hat!

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Does your stove not have a clock? They're fairly standard now

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Not while it's running.

Neither does the microwave, while it's running.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago

Mine does.

Even within a few hours of setting it, it's usually off by at least a few hours. My microwave is usually pretty accurate to within a few minutes, even after days.
