both sides are pretty bad, but you still gotta get on the bus

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

All the busses are going to the same place

Funny analogy because I've had instances where the public transit was so bad it was faster to walk the ~3-4 miles then use it

[–] WandowsVista@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I guess, to further the analogy - there's likely a bus that will get you close to your destination, but you've got to walk the rest of the way (or vice versa), call that political activism.

and if there is a bus available to you and you don't take it, you're just a person yelling at buses, which helps no one (except maybe your mental health?).

Or alternatively you can use an ebike which is 3 times faster, or a regular bike which is 2 times faster if you have one, at least where I live. I don't think comparing voting in the US to public transit which is also dysfunctional here is the flex you think it is.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

It isn't the flex they think it is but I think it fits just fine.

When the system doesn't work for your intentions, you get up and use an alternative that directly enables you towards your desired ends.

The system of electoralism being compared to the dysfunction of the US public transit system is a perfect analogy from the anarchist perspective.

That doeant mean you have to get on one of the two major busses. It's completely fine to pick a third smaller bus. It might take longer to arrive, but it doesn't smell like someone pissed on the seat.

ranked choice voting would open up so many more bus routes

[–] sness@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

That would be a great solution, if we ever manage to get one of those small buses to go anywhere.

[–] UrPartnerInCrime@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But although that bus may literally be perfect to ride on the inside, the engine seizes and tires explode so you're stuck 5 feet from the bus depot with no actual hope of going anywhere

Maybe if people used them for more than 1 single ride before deciding it's taking too long. They would be sustainable enough to hire more mechanics and buy better quality tires.

But don't take my word for it. All you need to do is look across the pond to the east, and you'll find dozens of countries that all have more than 2 busses. What, you think they just popped up over night?

The people not continuing to ride the broken small bus realize there's nothing to gain and all to lose by just magically wishing the bus will just go
