I am basically on Chris’s side vs Mike on that particular shit, but Mike is the one who is ultimately correct about the need to get involved in mass politics with average people in order to win the revolution.

I think that would have worked better to some extent if that had been done before, or at least during, Reagan. MTV did a rock the vote in the 90s to try and invigorate the late X-ers/elder Mils and I think it did have an effect. For a lot of us Bush v Gore was our first presidential election. Then Bush won because the state his brother was governor of miraculously flipped in his favor. Then came 9/11, which I don’t think was an inside job but question how much intel was missed, disregarded, or known but half ignored; doubt we’ll ever know. But the amount of liberty that died when Homeland Security took effect, the normalizing of a surveillance state, the spread of disinformation, the power of the Democratic Party to stonewall left-wing but not party line candidates (which seems to be slipping and is a good step), the stoking of bigotry as a political tool, and now the nigh untouchable power of oligarchs…

Getting people involved in mass politics works if democracy works, and I’m afraid what semblance of democracy we once had is now a gamed, cheated, “make you feel like your vote matters” charade. I think we’re a couple of years away from blatant voter suppression/cheating with zero fucks given, a crisis to install dictator for life, or his term expiring and him refusing to leave. Don’t not vote, but also prepare for a much grittier struggle to get rid of them. Heritage Foundation president expects a second revolution, on their terms, and promised it would be bloodless only if the left allowed it. They’re not planning on respecting the will of the people if our will rebukes them.
