Yeah, the entire Iraq war was based on two things. Cheney's desire to sell weapons and Dubya's daddy issues.

Also helping out his oil buddies as a side benefit.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 20 points 4 days ago (1 children)

A lot of people try and dress him up as some architect of evil, in reality he's just the banality of evil conjured up in human form. The dude spent over a thousand days on vacation during his presidency, and basically let the most evil people in the country do whatever they wanted.

In my book that makes him just as evil as Cheney and Paul Bremer, just in a lazier way.

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

He did not have complete idiots like hungover talk show hosts run the country. Goes a long way.

[–] redsand@infosec.pub 5 points 3 days ago

The Epstein files and Franklin incident paint his and jeb's daddy issues in a new light. I understand why he fucked off to paint on a ranch.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 45 points 4 days ago

The bushes are old money and can afford their own child sex slaves instead of borrowing epstein's.

Fuck W, but the man can duck a shoe. Props.

[–] IratePirate@feddit.org 19 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Well, the current incumbent has successfully dodged the draft, decades of taxes, being held accountable for 34 felonies, two illegal acts of war, incitement to an insurrection and accusations of pedophilia and rape. Seems it'll take no less than the world's entire shoe production to take this motherfucker down.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 9 points 3 days ago

Also dodged a couple of bullets, allegedly…

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

I got a good heavy boot I can beat him with.

[–] MyVeryRealName@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I bet he can't duck a shoe. Fuck it, perhaps.

great memes back then.

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It was revenge for his father's failing. It wasn't for nothing. Oh, that and oil.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Let's not forget the biggest reason W went to war

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago

I'll believe a lot, but I don't think he'd go to war for Pace Picante Sauce.

Now that I think about this, even putting aside that Pace isn't very good, are you claiming that Saddam had developed a truly superior salsa and we invaded to get it? I am outraged this salsa has been kept from us!

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Meh I always figured it was more showing up daddy

[–] Einskjaldi@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

It was a very dear desire to finish it for sure.

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

Whitewashed by Trump because he looks like a genius in comparison.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 14 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Idiot son of an asshole.

Anyone else remember when we thought we could “rock the vote” and that would make a difference?

[–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I've been revisiting NoFX The Decline/ War on Errorism during the Trump 2.0 regime. Shit hasn't changed in 20+ years.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Of all the Bush whelps, how did the biggest idiot among them end up being president ?

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

Stratergery.

[–] slappyfuck@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I am basically on Chris’s side vs Mike on that particular shit, but Mike is the one who is ultimately correct about the need to get involved in mass politics with average people in order to win the revolution.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

I think that would have worked better to some extent if that had been done before, or at least during, Reagan. MTV did a rock the vote in the 90s to try and invigorate the late X-ers/elder Mils and I think it did have an effect. For a lot of us Bush v Gore was our first presidential election. Then Bush won because the state his brother was governor of miraculously flipped in his favor. Then came 9/11, which I don’t think was an inside job but question how much intel was missed, disregarded, or known but half ignored; doubt we’ll ever know. But the amount of liberty that died when Homeland Security took effect, the normalizing of a surveillance state, the spread of disinformation, the power of the Democratic Party to stonewall left-wing but not party line candidates (which seems to be slipping and is a good step), the stoking of bigotry as a political tool, and now the nigh untouchable power of oligarchs…

Getting people involved in mass politics works if democracy works, and I’m afraid what semblance of democracy we once had is now a gamed, cheated, “make you feel like your vote matters” charade. I think we’re a couple of years away from blatant voter suppression/cheating with zero fucks given, a crisis to install dictator for life, or his term expiring and him refusing to leave. Don’t not vote, but also prepare for a much grittier struggle to get rid of them. Heritage Foundation president expects a second revolution, on their terms, and promised it would be bloodless only if the left allowed it. They’re not planning on respecting the will of the people if our will rebukes them.

He was part of a different elite network. Like people keep saying “Epstein class” but the reality is that it was just a specific network of elites, of which there are many.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (6 children)

Unpopular Opinion: starting wars that murder hundreds of thousands of innocent people for no reason is worse than the Epstein scandal. Though I admit my reasoning depends on the value of Arab lives being way higher than most Westerners would allow.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 days ago

I dunno, to look a child in the eyes then sell her to another rapist friend of yours?

That’s a whole different level of fucked than approving black sites and bombing without having to physically see it yourself out manage the consequences.

To say nothing of the other accusations in the files.

And Trump is desperate to kill innocents too.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 days ago

Wholly disagree.

Starting a war to distract from decades of child rape is an entirely different level of disgusting.

I detest both of the warmongers, but I detest the child raping warmonger a whole lot more.

[–] Virtvirt588@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Id like to think that its not unpopular. The Epstein scandal is essentially gripping trump by the balls; he is a warmonger, but so is any other dictator. The correlation with the scandal makes this quite different and isnt something that can be swept under the carpet.

The effective weapon towards a psychopathic warmonger is having as much surface area as possible.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

America still had their reasons for those wars. They weren't good reasons, but it wasnt a war for no reason.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

I'd say they're on roughly the same level. War mongering and child trafficking are both generally top level villainy.

The incompetence, negligence, and corruption of the George W Bush administration was responsible for the avoidable deaths of over 10,000 American citizens, and countless foreign nationals, the waste of trillions of dollars, and the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.

That's his true legacy. He belongs in the Bottom 15 of American presidents.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Remember when he almost choked to death on a potato chip?

Why can't Trump choke to death on a big mac? 😩

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Iirc it was a pretzel. I remember being a kid and joking that I was eating something that almost ended him.

This brand of stupidity was a lot more straightforward.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

So there was nothing wrong with that asshole? He was just stupid on his own accord? Wow.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If anything you could interpret the meme to mean he is even more of an asshole. He isn't even getting black mailed, just killing brown people because he likes to.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

because his father told him to.

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Don't believe in that bullshit they all knew about it. Especially the Republican party. They just willfully ignored it. That's why multiple people talked about it and nobody did anything from 1990-2019. The privilege of being a rich white person in America is getting away with pedophelia for 20 years only to be president x3. That's just our generation. I guarantee you a lot more pieces of shits in history.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 days ago
[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Its a depressing time in politics when saying "yeah, I can believe he's probably not a pedophile" borders on being praise.

[–] Phantaloons@piefed.zip 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I paint now, forgive me.

...nahhhh

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

he probably knew becuse alot of billionaires politicians, and celebreties were involved, because most of epstein prosecution happened while he was in, he just wasnt associated directly with epstein. pam bondi/ todd blanche/william barr was involved during his years to get him off scott free.

[–] PearOfJudes@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

SAME WITH JOE BIDEN! He seriously had no pushback on the Israel genocide, no mention in the Epstein files!
