White men will never recover from this. Any creditability they once had is gone.
I know I will never trust a white man going forward until the day I die.
I'll always be baffled by the blatant hypocrisy on display in sentiments such as these. As if an eye for an eye has ever led to anything more than two blind people.
White men elected Donald Trump. I'm not sure how this is news to you.
Completely missed my point. There's nothing beneficial about a retributive standpoint based on distrusting an entire identity group because of statistical averages. Cathartic I'm sure (on a purely non-thinking and surface level), but then you're no better than the people you're criticizing in that regard. It's entirely emotional, quite like the people in charge of the US right now.
You're getting down voted but where's the lie? Any white guy keeping his head down is complicit at this point. History will not be kind to the craven cowards of this decade.
Because grouping an entire race of people under one umbrella-like view is racist.
Easy way to tell is just sub the race mentioned for another race. "I will never trust a black man from now until the day I die." Does that sound OK to you?
Do you realize that right now, being a white man protects you. This means that you have an obligation to stand up for others.
Any straight cis white man who does not disavow this regime and doesn’t do their damnedest to protect POC and LGBT is a fellow traveler. Unlike your trans and black friends, you aren’t going to get mowed down in the streets by cops. You have to use the privilege of safety, the privilege of being allowed to be who you are and listened to, to fight for others.
I disavow this regime!!.... is it all fixed now?
I hope YOU realize that accusing every white person you see of being horribly racist and isn't doing enough only pushes them further to the right.
Did you take some funny medication and read an entirely different post?
Kinda amazing that feeling accused of racism on the internet drives white men to justify being racist. Imagine what you’d be driven to do if you’d ever been denied a job or had the shit beaten out of you by a cop because of your ethnicity.
I guess when you aren’t used to systemic persecution, people being a little mean to you on the internet feels like a threat. A new experience for you to be characterized based on your race and gender- the real world is completely designed for you, but sometimes people on the internet have the gaul to point that out!
You literally said "Any straight cis white man who does not disavow this regime and doesn’t do their damnedest to protect POC and LGBT is a fellow traveler." So I disavowed the regime, like you said I should do lol. Nice gaslight I guess.
Keep driving young white men into the alt-right pipeline then idk they probably love people like you.
No Adolf, when you put it that way it's pretty fucked up.
Not convinced you aren't a right wing plant trying to push people further right
I'm trying to give the benefit of a doubt to Liberal white men but you gotta look at it from my perspective as a black man here. Look at every fucked up action that's been done in the last couple of years. And who provided the majority of support for Trump.
White women. That is the majority of Trump's base.
Whiteness has directly been used as an oppressive force on a global scale for as long as been an identifiable thing. You can't say the same about any other color or race.
As long as people in large numbers are actively unifying behind the flag of whiteness and using it to dominate others, I think it's acceptable to prejudge members of that group.
This is why decent white people should be doing everything they can't to stop this use of whiteness.
I'm trans, if a large percentage of trans people were unifying behind and using transness to consolidate power to dominate and exploit cis people (in a make believe world where there's enough trans people to do this), I'd expect cis people to have an inherent distrust of trans people.
Not trying to argue the degree of oppression which whiteness has caused across the globe and through time. White men specifically are the goats of oppression, no doubt. I'm not trying to defend them or anything like that.
But grouping a.... "class" of people, white, black, man, woman, American, gay, short, overweight, idk pick a characteristic, is just not right.
Well, as a white guy with autism that is just mild enough that it isn't apparent when people first interact with me my entire existence is basically trying to figure out where all the invisible traps are. To an outside observer it would very much appear like I'm keeping my head down and being complicit, and yet I often find myself identifying most with people in marginalized groups because of their experiences, how they feel, and how they are treated. I have no qualms standing up for someone when I can, but it's rare that anyone ever stands up for me because I'm just another white guy despite the fact that I'm usually confused and barely keeping my head above water on the inside.
I am also neurodivergent, and it is very painful how our behavior can be misinterpreted. I'm not advocating for white guys to be discriminated against. I'm saying that given the current administration's ambitions to create a nation to serve white men, any white men who don't fight back will be assumed to be on board. It's not always fair, but I don't think it's realistic to expect people to be more nuanced given human history.
It would just be nice if it ever felt like I wasn't standing naked out in the middle of no mans land. I generally don't have any community that provides protection even when I need it and this particular conversation thread is a good example of why. I can't go into the spaces or communities where I most identify with others experiences without being treated for what I appear to be, and even if I wanted to capitalize on being being a white dude (I really don't), it doesn't take very long before I piss off the wrong person or make problems by pointing out how something isn't OK.
If/when things really do go sideways I fully expect that I will be one of the first individuals to be put on the proverbial trains because I'm target. No one is going to show up in support of me.
That's all I'm saying.
Find community with antifascists and feminists. Reject the patriarchy and do the work to tear it down. I'm a white guy, or at least close enough for appearances, but I don't let it hold me back.
It's the guys who just try to passively absorb all the benefits of patriarchy without doing the labor to dismantle it who I suspect will be judged retroactively.
That's the problem I'm trying, likely failing, to communicate/point out though. All other things being equal those groups and types of people tend to be less receptive to my opinions and perspectives on things just because of what I am even when they have known me for a while. I have experienced on more than one occasion someone getting upset with me for pointing something out where when someone else who wasn't a white dude said almost the exact same thing verbatim they accepted it without an issue.
People are people and dumb tribalism and prejudice is present in almost every space and I am also hardwired to detect it and call it out when I see it. Keeping quiet about it and just watching it happen makes me very agitated and takes a lot of mental energy to keep in check. So take that in combination with the above and well....
I'm tired boss. Not tired of fighting for others' right to exist, I'll do that every day. I'm just tired of fighting for my own.
