What if people were actually raptured a long time ago and what's left is us. We're all just crazy degenerates left here fighting each other while the sane nice people actually did disappear
The idea of "Rapture" is very recent; and based on a very problematic pseudo-theology.
But for your idea, something more theologically solid relates to the idea that God is the source of all good, a world where God is entirely absent would be only evil and suffering, Hell.
It gets more complicated than that if the one God is an omnipotent creator of all.
