Season 2 is rough, and season 6 is a bit too depressing for me. 3, 5, and 7 are great.

Oh season 2 is hard but it's such a painful season and so good at making you feel. And 6 even more so. 6 isn't my favorite season because 3 and 5 exist, but it's probably 3rd. Definitely has some questionable decisions, but the making the big bad be life, the incel villains, and the raw struggles of the characters were so good. Also the musical episode was peak.

Tap for spoilerTara deserved better though. And everything surrounding the rape was quite rough.

Season 4 is my least favorite because it just failed to hit very hard, and being sandwiched between 3 with Cordelia's face turn and Faith, Wesley, and the Mayor and 5 with Glory and just everything great about it, it's flatness was far more noticeable

I get that. 6 was almost really great at being what it really was, a long, depressing slog. Which it should have been. But that makes the clunky episodes just heavy and bad. Plus the transition from network to network... Ugh.

Musical was absolutely peak.

All of them. Joss Whedon sucks as a human and a writer.

He cheated on his wife, but loads of good writers do that. He was a raging douche to Charisma Carpenter and ruined her joy in her career. But he was a d remains a spectacular writer. Just a total hypocrite, like most people in Hollywood.

Eh I'd call him an amazing showrunner (aside from what he did to Carpenter, her absence made the show worse in addition to his behavior being wrong) and a very swingy writer. Toy Story was great, but his writing for Marvel is what really broke the spell of him as an amazing writer. Though apparently he wrote most of the best episodes of Buffy, so maybe I just dislike his writing in superhero movies.
