Lmao, clearly its a trap. Nobody puts that much money in a wallet like that. Just walk away.

Give it back. You're obliged to 10% finders reward here.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 hours ago

Ah so these are the child support payments...

[–] multifariace@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

which god?

some would teach that it is yours and should be taken, for a wide variety of reasons. some wpuld teach to give it to the needy as well as everything else you own. some would teach that it has no value and to leave it to nature. some would teach it is evil and must be destroyed. some would say to offer at as sacrifice. some would say to enshrine it.

there's so many ways this could go.

Stay the hell away from that drug money.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 2 points 8 hours ago

Google "How to hide found cash from the IRS" in a private tab.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

it just makes sense

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 7 hours ago

Return the wallet, keep the money as a reward. That's fair.

Start believing in miracles?!

I know because this already happened to me, I returned it. The owner was very surprised that the money was not missing when I gave him the wallet but didn't even pay me a coffee, no regerts tho.

my kid was playing on a swing in a community park in a neighboring town (an expensive place to live). She found a big baggie of cash, looked like mostly singles, but it was maybe 2" thick. I told her to put it back and not mess with it. Maybe it was someones birthday money, maybe it was some other nefarious source. no matter what I don't need that in my life, I definitely don't need my kid dealing with it.

You did the right thing. Wait until that local dealer gets more successful and starts leaving larger sums at that dead drop.

I would fulfill my legal obligation by reporting that cash as missing to the police, if not claimed I get to legally keep it (the only reason why I would do this is because that sort of money tends to come with severe problems)

[–] Kommeavsted@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Funny enough it was a cop's wallet, what are the chances!

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Hell no in that case I aint taking the money. If a cop left a wallet with that much money its probably because they're running some sick prank to try to get some poor soul arrested.

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I think he meant cops are not honest and will just pocket the money themselves instead of looking for the owner

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago

Oh yeah they would 100% do that, hell they would do that if the wallet was inside your own home

Look for hidden cameras

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Throw out the cash and You'll have Yourself a nice wallet.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At least recycle it, unless you're in a country using plastic bills.

[–] protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

remember the 3 Rs, Reuse, Reutilize, Recycle

reuse it!

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Reduce was the first one, but I suspect the plastic industry might have replace it.

I knew my memory was failing me! thanks for reminding it was for reduce

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago

If there's no ID and no way to determine who it belongs to, finders keepers.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Look for an ID. Return it. Or give it to the cops.

I seen that money. No way I am keeping a sus wad of cash tyvm.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

No way that wallet is anything but a fucking trap. I'd be looking around for the asshole with the camera pranking people

[–] Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 day ago

A month or two ago I found $40 someone had taped up to the bus stop with a sticker. You better believe I snatched that shit up. Who am I to question the ways of people who go around leaving money at bus stops with stickers?

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

A wallet like that doesn't belong to someone that calls the police. I'd just keep walking.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

It's just like Jesus said: "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and render unto me all of that cash in that inexplicably bulging wallet over there."

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 6 points 1 day ago

Check for ID; if none, count and photograph it before turning it in to the police department.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Mana from heaven!

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago
