And if I reach for the pizza without oven mitts:

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (3 children)

With 450 °C your pizza should be ready in 30 seconds.

That's what pizza ovens run at and it takes about 2-3 minutes for the pizza to be ready. You can also get ones that go up to 500°C.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

what pizza?

[–] ReasonablePea@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

The pizza shop I worked at in college had the oven somewhere between 600-700 F

Where is this clip from? Reminds me of Sunshine.

It's from the end of Final Destination 5.

spoilerWhich is actually the event that started the first final destination.

You should try opening my heat treating kiln when it's been cooking at 1875° F.

Don't stand too close if you're wearing clothing made of synthetic fibers.

I just hope that whatever lives in there will never breach containment.

I think it'd melt into goo before it could manage that.

JUST shy of book-burning temperature (according to my learnings from reading Ray Bradbury).

Although if you put paper in a 450F oven, it's definitely catching on fire (because swing temps).

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My oven can get up to (and past) this temp. Unfortunately the door locks so I can't get a preview of Satan's home (it only does it for pyrolytic cleaning).

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

People hack ovens to let them use this mode to cook pizzas

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

My oven has a pizza mode 😆. Surely at 450 Celsius the pizza is just gonna come out black... I think pizza mode is more like 260 heated from underneath.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Well, if you put it in for 1s at 450, will it come out black? Course not, it takes a little time. So there's a time that'll cook the surface perfectly. Turns out that, since pizza is very thin, a couple of minutes at 450 is perfect.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 2 points 8 hours ago

I never considered that a short sharp cook would be better than longer at a lower heat. I already only cook the pizzas 3-5 mins.

Hmm, maybe I will need to learn how to hack my oven.

[–] stevles@aussie.zone 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Thanks, fellow metric user! Freedom units shouldn't have a place in this world

[–] froh42@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I bake pizza at 400.

Celsius.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Sure, but that requires a pizza oven.

[–] antimidas@sopuli.xyz 1 points 20 hours ago

Yep, the closest I can get with my own oven is 300 celsius with a pizza stone. At that point the heating elements are on pretty much constantly. It leads to a relatively good crust, but still isn't as good as a proper pizza oven. I've seen some normal electric ovens that go up to 350 here, which could be enough to make up the difference.

The oven is also clearly not meant to be used like this on the daily. Parts of the oven exterior get to around 200 degress celsius when baking multiple pizzas.

[–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So do I, but Kelvin. Takes me a while.

[–] VonReposti@feddit.dk 2 points 1 day ago

Great temp for some pulled pork.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Legit how you get restaurant-style blackened crust. Make the crust thin and bake for 3 minutes

[–] froh42@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I'm aming for Neapolitan style pizza, my electric pizza oven is OK, but sometimes I still wish I had a garden for a real wood-fired oven.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Both are arbitrary scales. People tend to prefer the one they grew up with. Yes, water boiling at 100°C is neat. No, that doesn't mean people who use Fahrenheit are wrong. Unless they're doing science, cause SI units are important (Zenon did nothing wrong)

Also, the meme is supposed to be both. Using the American (400°F preheat is normal) assumption of relevance (yes, it's a real thing) but then pulling the switcheroo and using an image corresponding to Celsius.

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 4 points 23 hours ago

I grew up with F, but now I'm all for C. It drives me crazy that the US (where I grew up) refuses to change.

[–] observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Both are arbitrary but only one is an international standard

The meme is clearly saying the oven is at 450°C, which is 723.15K.

We got an oven that has a stone fire pizza mode on it. It gets the stone up to 750F. Cooks our homemade pizzas in ~2 minutes. It's awesome.

[–] remon@ani.social 2 points 23 hours ago

I see you like it charred to a crisp ...

[–] Labna@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

I was planning to joke about the 450° of rotation but, you know, internet is strange so, instead I found a French pizzeria... https://www.450degres.fr/

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Oh, just like opening the front door in Florida.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

550 minimum for pizza

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 5 points 1 day ago

450°R is cold as fuck, it's 41.7° below freezing duh, are you an alien?

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago
