That's how god damn fucking stupid these mother fuckers are. They don't understand a single fucking thing beyond the most absolute surface level of everything they fucking see and hear. They repeat shit they heard from people they think are smarter than them and they think they're being clever for it.

Fuck dude pisses me right the fuck off, im so fucking over this epidemic of idiocracy. Felt good to vent on a Friday morning tho. Didnt want to hold onto it all day.

No like, actually to any American who feels that way, shut up, quit voting, and let those of us with brains and hearts run the country. Canada has done nothing to hurt or offend us unril we started it. They were in fact the best neighbor and ally a country could ask for. Far better neighbors than we were and especially than dipshits like this are

Goliath down, you looketh tired.

And here we have an example of the American education system on full display.

Does he even know Goliath was the bad guy?

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 44 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

They do this so often it's amazing. They like villains but forget that villains most often lose

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 12 points 13 hours ago

It's just that American Christian Republicans only know their bible 6th hand thru memes. Like this dumbass who is talking to who he thinks are people that know it 12th hand because his ego is over-inflatedx

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 12 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

The villains lose because history is written by victors. Pretty sure Amalek would describe their genocide different from the biblical version

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Weren't they the ones who have their babies dashed against the rocks? The Bible is fucked up.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 10 hours ago

I think that was a revenge fantasy for Babylonians. So it didn't happen, not even according to the biblical narrative, which doesn't really make it better.

About Amalek, the Bible says among other things: "You shall blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!"
Adding to the obvious irony, there is no mention of them outside the Bible. So assuming they were a historical people, the only book that preserve their name is the one that tells us to wipe it from memory.

This has gotta be the dumbest administration in American history.

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 168 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 20 points 20 hours ago (20 children)

Hey, silver lining. I don't believe this one!

I think if our president were any dumber, they couldn't get elected. He's damn near drooling on himself. There has to be something left to sway that many people. And even most idiots wouldn't appoint this many fellow idiots.

It seems really, really hard to have an administration this dumb. I think this is the dumbest possible point.

Now, things can get worse. See Stalin. See this surveillance tech. But I don't think the admin itself can get any dumber than this.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 32 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I remember when we thought things couldn't get dumber than George W...

Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Rarely is the question asked: is our children learning?

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago

I had a teacher in HS with one of those tear away day calendars where each day was a stupid quote of his.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Oh it can definitely get a lot dumber. The dumbness is for all the culture war and posturing they are doing for their moronic voters. There is literally no rock bottom for how dumb they can behave towards them in order to gain their support. Because however stupid this administration is, their voters are even more stupid. So they have lots of way to go where they or the next administration can turn up the dumb dial.

Where the administration is smart is in all the corruption, grifting and pocketing of public money. Which is its only true goal.

I think some of them say stupid stuff as a weird power move - "yeah I said bullshit what are you going to do about it? Nothing. Because you're weak"

This is a factor in why fascists only really respond to power. It's all they understand, and even that understanding is limited.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I have brought up "cruelty signalling" and "vice signalling" a number of times as a conservative counterpart to "virtue signalling"...

But MAGA seems to have progressed it to "ignorance signalling", to show your allegiance to Dear Leader, you must project your idiocy in his likeness.

Fun fact: almost everybody are dead wrong about David vs Goliath.

David was a seasoned soldier armed with the bronze age equivalent of a 9mm pistol, while Goliath was a huge dude with a club.

The only way Goliath could have had any chance would be if David started the fight in the Goldilocks zone of "within melee range but not so close that the relative size of Goliath and his weapon becomes a disadvantage"

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 6 points 10 hours ago

I always imagine goliath just being a huge dude. But not like hafthor, but more like a disabled guy that has gigantism and everything hurts. But hey, tall guy

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 33 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

To the extent he is an historical figure, it wasn’t even David who killed him, as I understand it. Rather it was an appropriation of a the valor of one of David’s own soldiers by David’s biographer/Propagandist/Deuteronomist since seemingly their own sources say that Elhanan killed him:

IN ANOTHER BATTLE WITH THE PHILISTINES AT GOB, ELHANAN SON OF JAIR THE BETHLEHEMITE KILLED GOLIATH THE GITTITE, WHO HAD A SPEAR WITH A SHAFT LIKE A WEAVER’S ROD

2 Samuel 21:19

It seems unlikely that any scribe in a Davidic regime would get away with the reverse; attributing one of King David’s most heralded victories to a lowly son of Jair.

I hadn't realised that a sling was so lethal.

That's what makes the story so sensational - kid with a stick takes on a navy seal.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Sling stones (although you'd normally use specially cast lead shot) would absolutely break bones. A hit to the head could definitely be lethal.

[–] perviouslyiner@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Obligatory Lindybeige - introduction to ancient slings, and comparison to archery.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, it was a proper military weapon.

In reality* it was more like "navy seal takes on badly armed primitive dude who happens to be large" 🤷🏻

*insofar as you can regard anything from a religious text as "reality"

so like fezzik vs the man in black

Wars Canada has been on the losing side of:

End of list.

[–] DigDoug@lemmy.world 21 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

It sounds like Canada needs to burn down the White House again.

A giant, blustering and bragging in his hubris, only to get his ass handed to him by a rock wielding shepherd. In a match he should easily have won.

Not a situation the US would be familiar with at all. /s
