Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

As a parent who interacts with other parents, I can assure you some are.

My ex would do it. Probably wouldn't tweet about it (she's a covert narcissist)

I watched a presentation from a big tech company in which the presenter talked how, while his wife was giving birth, he saw that as an opportunity and asked AI to build a "nursery design" site because he could use his daughter as a model. People were praising him for being forward thinking about providing to his family, I just couldn't imagine being this greedy.

I saw people from the same company eagerly discussing using AI to recreate dead relatives. It's disgusting how much these people are hypnotized by AI

The setting he chooses, his wife asking him to do a basic parenting activity which he should want to do anyway, speaks volumes

And the one thing that would leave me feeling too exhausted to want to read to my kids (but would anyway), is work. The last thing I would replace that with... Is more work.

Oh. A future dad who will wonder why his kid never visits or even calls. I feel like I have seen this play out a hundred times before, but now they can use "AI" as an excuse.

Okay so this is how you get an AI dystopia. Yes you have to have massive amounts of AI in everything but you also have to have idiots that insist on using it for everything.

We could just automate all the crap jobs people don't like e.g. most of the jobs and to be honest most of them probably don't need doing anyway, and still be human.

Oh we can go down this idiots route.

"Why would I bother enjoying life when I can just program a robot to enjoy life for me?"

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 16 points 22 hours ago

I almost thought this was Clammy "Raped My Sister" Sammy's AI podcast post that Alex Hirsch of Gravity Falls fame responded to with "or you could just talk to your kids".

What more proof do you need that these miserable people are completely joyless than the fact that they immediately automate everything people find enjoyable just because they can?

"I can read books to a dataset 10 times more than I would read to my son over his lifetime, and all of that only to train a model that talks somewhat like me sometimes."

Driving a car requires a test and licensing. Somehow, raising a child doesn't require something similar.

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 13 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Because any kind of test or restriction leads to eugenics which is ethically unconscionable.

Loads of your and my ancestors were scum bag parents.
