Military officials are sketching out a plan that could deploy a few thousand National Guard members, officials said. The use of active-duty forces has also been discussed.

Its pretty clear that the plan is to wreck Democratic-leaning cities one by one.

Can we not call it a crackdown, thereby lending legitimacy to the farce being used to invade a city in the US?

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Tell that to Bezos, whose employees wrote the headline for him and buried the mention that this is illegal way down in the article

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

He stopped answering my calls when I put down the pipe.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Biden's legacy will forever be a "return to normalcy" instead of putting something in place to prevent this

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 12 hours ago

Yeeeeah no. Come on. The trump admin is actively breaking laws on top of “norms and traditions”. If this had all been meticulously planned against and counters written into law (which let’s be honest, wasn’t going to happen) you think Trump would suddenly care about following laws?

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago

Nazi invasion

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm with Meidas' remark on this - suuuuuuch a bullshit headline. It gives credence to Taco Camacho and his fascist bullshit.

Crackdown? On fucking WHAT?

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago

On people having darker skin than Trump's, or voting to not have a crackdown.

[–] MisterCurtis@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They need to be so severely booed when they arrive. There is no respect or honor in their service being used this way. They should be ashamed.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 1 points 13 hours ago

Booed?? You think fucking yelling is the answer?

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 2 points 19 hours ago

It would be funnier to give them campaign medals. And then when they match in parade they can tell people that they are veterans of the battle of Washington or what ever. Just pull the absolute piss out of them, have podcasts where they discuss their time with Ukrainian veterans to the point where they give up out of embarrassment

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Living in Chicago I expect nothing less than that.

My guess is they’ll station everyone in the loop for optics but not actually put military in the actually dangerous streets.

Ain’t nobody going to North Lawndale or Garfield Park.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Heh, if they did, all that knowledge from Iraq and Afghanistan won't do them any good.

Different groups of guerilla fighters attacking with different uncoordinated tactics, no Intel on capabilities or location, and no tech to exploit. Not to mention no language barriers.

[–] ShieldsUp@startrek.website 3 points 1 day ago

Plus they will be working against our own people. When deployed to another country there is some mental disconnect happening that I don't think will happen domestically.

Aside from tactics and training not working which I agree with, I don't believe the majority will be motivated to be effective in any way.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is a completely unrelated thing but please tell me Garfield Park has lots of Garfield the cat graffiti.

[–] Blooper@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 1 day ago

Graffiti, yes. Graffiti of pussy even!

Garfield? Not so much

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

I didn't give Trump permission to invade Chicago

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Each time he's done this they wasted a shitload of money, his numbers dropped and he ends up looking like an idiot. Even more importantly, it brings them no closer to expanding their control over the populace. They might actually be too stupid to be effective authoritarians.

[–] Stanley_Pain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Funny if you think "his numbers" actually mater at this point in time.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

The numbers always matter. Dictators just get by with smaller numbers.

Are all these "elections don't matter" people a psy-op? Either take up arms because democracy has failed or fuck off with this Trump-aiding "voting doesn't matter" fatalism.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Yeah approval doesn't matter until approval really fucking matters. I'm not saying this is going to cost him power, but I am saying that Franco's white terrors weren't because he just hated his opposition so much. They were about stopping it's spread and its ability to gain influence.

Nah, I just think you're never going to have a proper election again. We'll see I guess.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Really unpopular presidents lose elections. Really unpopular kings lose their heads. It matters, even if he's messing with the election.

I'm more making a comment on you're not going to have a proper/legit election.

[–] aramova@infosec.pub 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The problem with most Democrats is they assume anything said or done during the next election will matter.

Seriously, what are angry letters from Schumer going to do when the SCOTUS rules in his favor over ignore several electoral votes cause he claims they're fake?

What's the cabinet going to accomplish when it's all hand picked fuckwads who play his tune like a bad 3rd world regime?

What's the vote of half the house or Senate matter when you need a clear majority to enact an impeachment, and half the country is still good with this all?

Lemmy needs a remindme bot, cause I really want to see how this goes in 3.5 years.

Very poorly is my best guess at this point. I don't think the US is going to have free and clear elections anymore. Time will tell, but too many people are way too focused on things like numbers and such.

The fascists don't give a fuck about numbers.

[–] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Each time he improves the process, scopes out his opposition and finds out what he needs congress to pass to make it easier. These first few times wont work, they aren't meant to, they are meant to set everything up so he can control the populace with military force without any legal opposition

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 day ago

Ah yes the TSA approach (Thousands Standing Around).

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don't know their endgame. I do know this has been planned for a while. Notable wealthy people sold their properties and moved to Florida.

They can have all the data they want. Apply whatever models to it they have.

This will not go according to their plans. Even if they are hoping for absolute chaos, they won't get that.

[–] FatCrab@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago

Chicago is not DC and I honestly think they're going to get the violence they're probably looking for, but i don't think it will go as well for them as they expect. But anyone who supports and facilitates the current regime deserves a pension plan of a five foot rope and a spot along a bridge so oh well.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Notable wealthy people sold their properties and moved to Florida.

Texas too...

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 day ago

I can believe NG troops are in a gray area on their deployments, as they have historically been allowed for certain emergencies and fighting whether this is a legit emergency may seem above their paygrade, but the active duty servicemembers don't have those excuses. It's time for them to start standing up and refusing orders.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Can the USA really fight Venezuela, Panama, Greenland, Mexico, Canada and the USA all at the same time?

[–] cattywampas@midwest.social 4 points 1 day ago

If 2000 hours of Civ has taught me anything, then no.

[–] keyhoh@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

Not if their food gets poisoned, that's for sure
