I'm autistic and I probably would have interpreted "pet names" like that as well. 😭
Also, I would be too embarrassed to assume the other person is talking about romantic pet names. What if they were not and I'd make the situation awkward? Too much of a risk.
Some sick parents also pimp out their own children. It's not just orphans or troubled kids; some go missing and nobody cares on purpose. :(
