Holy shit it's real: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1480786787417151

Also, besides the ridiculous case: It's embarrassing, that a police department would post a photo of a screen instead of a screenshot or an extracted frame from the original video.

  • "Hmm we have low resolution surveillance footage, how do we present this to the public?"
  • "I know bro, let's introduce sampling noise by taking a photo of the screen at an angle."
  • "Your investigative genius baffles me, bro!"

Okay let me get this straight...

This dude finds $30, and the police is on him like he broke into Fort Knox.

I get my £1500 phone snatched from my hands by an asswipe riding a motorbike, I have the license plate etc., and best they can do is half-ass the report not once, not twice, but three times so I have to come by for a fourth time just so I can pay my insurance £250 to get my phone replaced?

But you have to understand, this system allows us to oppress people even poorer than you, much more easily.

I'm sure you feel a little silly, now that you know.

The person who dropped the money was a cop. I bet you $30.

[–] huppakee@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Exactly what i thought when I read the post.

Edit: the first line i mean, i am not funny enough to think the second.

[–] DougPiranha42@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago

The way it’s worded, we can’t exclude that the dude dropped his own 30, and because the cash touched the floor for over 5 seconds, it became stolen cash once he picked it up.

I would recognize that shirt anywhere, that's Benjamin Netanyahu!

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 48 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The sanctity of finders keepers no longer applies these days? Fuck this time line...

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Technically a crime in Japan, at least.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Not only there.

[–] vala@lemmy.dbzer0.com 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is so poorly worded. It really reads like someone dropped their money and then picked it back up.

Took me forever to realize it was a cop who dropped the money.

[–] Slashme@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wait, where does it say that a cop dropped the money? That changes everything!

[–] vala@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 1 week ago

There is no other plausible explanation.

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 week ago

Why the hell else would the cops even look at this never-mind post about it?

[–] Naich@piefed.world 27 points 1 week ago

What's the point in having poor people if they are allowed to have money?

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Nonsense! He was alive just a few days ago to refuse video recor— ohhhhh.....

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

We all know the rules. Cops do not need to be involved in this, as no law was broken. The only reason they are, is because of the camera. Surveillance state at work "protecting" us.

If you find money on the ground, no wallet, there's no way to know who it belongs to, so it's yours.

If you find a wallet on the ground, and it has an ID of any sort in it, then you should turn it in. Taking money out of the wallet is wrong, because it could potentially be returned to the owner.

[–] Zannsolo@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

I've found 2 wallets in my life with about $2k combined in them you think I gave that shit back? You're goddamn right I did.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If they don't honour the age old law of "finders/keepers" then we're all in a heap of trouble.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We're in a heap of trouble, but this is far from the first clue.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

True, but it may be the final straw.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It just occurred to me that the cops posted this to justify the camera.

"See, cameras are good! We're the good guys!"

and also because they would usually keep the money for themselves

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

If the cops were detectives, and cared, they would have hit rewind to discover who dropped the money.

[–] 58008@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

They need to catch this repugnant criminal ASAP. It's only a matter of time before a $30-lifter starts selling children's organs to the Vietnamese mob.

[–] Kusarihime1@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

TIL keeping money you found on the floor is a crime. How ridiculous. What a waste of time and resources.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

No, it's not a crime. Cops do not define the law.

[–] RFKJrsBrainworm@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

Fucking panopticon bullshit ....

[–] inari@piefed.zip 9 points 1 week ago (3 children)

In Japan people do return wallets to the police, it's quite nice to live in a place where you feel safe like that

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 4 points 1 week ago

Sometimes. Often, perhaps, but definitely not all the time. Also, Japan be big and it can vary.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

My wife had her purse stolen by pickpockets. Luckily they only took the cash and dumped the purse. It was found and turned in to the lost and found office, so we got it back. So yeah, nice, but fuck the asshole that stole it in the first place.

[–] charokol@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wow, all of Japan? Amazing.

[–] inari@piefed.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Enough people so that a sweeping statement like that feels appropriate. Can you imagine?

[–] GarboDog@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Don’t know him hope you never find him,

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Something doesn't make sense here. Is it some sort of entrapment?

[–] Phil_in_here@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

Yeah, that guy is clearly white. Not the cops regular MO.

[–] Frenchgeek@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 days ago

They just want the $60 he took. They really need those $120 right now...
