MakeMKV gives you a pile of VOB files. Sonarr wants a clean named MKV in the right folder. The gap between those two is always a manual dance. Figure out which season it is, rename it, drop it in the right place, trigger a rescan.

Discarr fills that gap: it's a small Node.js web UI (no npm packages, pure built-ins) that handles the VIDEO_TS / BDMV / ISO → arr import chain.

What it does:

  • Scans disc structure automatically (VIDEO_TS, BDMV, multi-disc, ISO)
  • Reads IFO chapter data to split multi-episode DVD discs correctly
  • Browser UI to map disc titles to the right Sonarr episodes or Radarr movies
  • Queues HEVC encodes via ffmpeg or HandBrake (locally or over SSH to a remote box)
  • Notifies Sonarr/Radarr via custom script hooks on import/delete/completion
  • Optional: qBittorrent hook triggers a scan on torrent completion; Tdarr ping after encode
  • Persistent job queue. restarts resume automatically

Requirements: Node.js 18+, ffmpeg + ffprobe. HandBrake optional. Docker image bundles both plus openssh-client.

Still early, issues and PRs welcome.

Canadian MP Judy Sgro calls Taiwan important global democracy.

Archived link

Canadian lawmaker Judy Sgro announced that she will lead a cross-party parliamentary delegation to Taiwan in October.

During a hearing on Canada-Taiwan trade cooperation in Canada’s House of Commons, Sgro, head of the parliamentary Taiwan Friendship Group, said she looked forward to the trip, per CNA. Sgro described Taiwan as an important leading democracy in the world.

...

The next step is advancing a Taiwan-Canada Trade Cooperation Framework Agreement, Tseng added.

Several Canadian lawmakers asked about potential areas for deeper Taiwan-Canada cooperation, including whether Taiwan would be interested in purchasing Canadian energy or nuclear power resources. Taiwan is seeking more stable energy sources, and Canada is a good option, Tseng said.

...

Sgro’s forthcoming trip comes after Chinese Ambassador to Canada Wang Di warned Canada against sending lawmakers to Taiwan or military ships through the Taiwan Strait. Wang said Ottawa must make its position clear if it wants relations with Beijing to continue improving.

Poland and Canada have agreed to deepen their defence ties, including bolstering military procurement from one another, greater cooperation between their defence industries, and jointly participating in military drills in the Arctic.

...

This would involve “potential joint projects involving emerging defence technologies and discussions regarding the establishment of ammunition production capacity”, as well as cooperating under the EU’s SAFE programme, said the Canadian ministry.

SAFE is providing €150 billion in loans to EU member states to bolster defence spending, with Poland the largest recipient. Canada has an agreement with the EU for its firms to have preferential access and treatment for procurement under the programme.

Issue with xcp-ng management (tarte.nuage-libre.fr)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by Melusine@tarte.nuage-libre.fr to c/selfhosted@lemmy.world

Hi all !
I want to use xcp-ng for my homelab because why not, terraform and I like to use more uncommon tools (it often bites me afterward but it's funnier this way). Right now, I am on a road block because I can't set a management interface, and I can't do it because using DHCP times out and I can't set static IP on my ISP's router. Anyone with an idea ?

Edit : an emergency network reset solved the issue. I think I plugged and unplugged multiple time during the uptime, maybe it caused the issue

Airbus SE is exploring the possibility of manufacturing helicopters in Canada for global export if the company secures upcoming government contracts, according to reporting from Bloomberg, citing an executive at the aerospace manufacturer. The European firm currently employs more than 5,000 people in Canada.

Olivier Michalon, executive vice president of global business for Airbus Helicopters, said the company sees an opportunity as Canada increases defense spending and seeks to expand manufacturing jobs. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government is pursuing closer ties with Europe.

"Clearly, if Airbus helicopters are selected for any of the big upcoming campaigns and there is an industrial project which is tied to this contract, it’s an opportunity to export what would be manufactured here to the worldwide market," Michalon said in an interview in Ottawa. "We’re selling helicopters to 170 countries around the world and not everything has to come necessarily from our main plants in France or in Germany."

Prime Minister Mark Carney says the federal government is entering into contract negotiations with Saab to buy a fleet of surveillance aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force.

The federal government has previously said it’s in the market for six radar aircraft to help protect Canada against threats.

Saab produces the planes in a joint partnership with bombardier, based off of the Global 6500 business jet.

Have some self respect and journalistic integrity.

In America it really does seem like we can only trust some independent sources and media, certainly not the major networks that are bought and owned.

Canada is one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of agri-food products, and the sector contributed $149.2 billion of the country’s GDP in 2024. Since Canadian agricultural producers and food processors rely extensively on exports, the growth and sustainability of the sector depends heavily on international market access.

Trade tensions are disrupting supply chains [and] businesses are being forced to reconsider their supply chain dependencies and export strategies. For a highly trade-dependent economy like Canada’s, the stakes are significant.

...

No commodity illustrates the volatility of single-market dependence more clearly than canola.

...

China accounts for more than 60 per cent of Canada’s canola seed exports. Canola exports to China were relatively stable until 2019, when they declined sharply amid rising diplomatic tensions following the December 2018 arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou. Exports fell from about five million metric tonnes in 2018 to 1.5 million metric tonnes in 2019.

Trade recovered, and by 2024 canola exports to China had climbed to nearly six million metric tonnes. But they fell again to about two million in 2025 after China imposed a 100 per cent surtax on Canadian canola in retaliation for Canada’s equivalent tariff on Chinese electric vehicles.

...

A major priority of the Canadian government should be to deepen and expand Canada’s market access globally. That requires a comprehensive strategy combining export diversification, economic diplomacy and investment in domestic productivity.

...

Canada must also continue strengthening its trade relationship with the U.S. while expanding trade relations with countries in Europe, Asia beyond China, Africa and Latin America. The goal is to ensure no single partner’s political decisions can destabilize Canada’s agricultural economy.

Key thing here: he thought they were venomous water moccasins (even though they were not) and picked them up with his bare hands, which is how people get bitten. This kind of "I am immune to snakebite because of my religion" thing has a history of getting people killed.
