Yeah if we all hate the fascists but then condemn the Democrats, we will have the numbers and the shear power to accomplish nothing….

Seriously, if you don’t like the Democrats then fucking vote for Democrats who will steer the party left. That’s what the neo-cons, tea party, maga did to change the Republican Party (and change it they did).

This notion of a progressive third party is just a waste of time by self-absorbed clique-ish people who fancy themselves too good for “the mainstream”. Grow the fuck up and work with your fellow country-persons instead of this weird romantic fantasy of third party revolution by the superior left…

I look forward to your scathing responses and down arrows. Just know that the fascists don’t care what you think because in all likelihood, that down arrow is the most you are willing to actually do….

Yeah. Very well said. To add, take note of how the candidates they were screaming at us to vote for have disappeared into a cloud of irrelevance.

They’ve entirely abandoned their little handful of supporters.

But don’t worry 3rd Party’ers, they will be back in 2028 to promise a heck of a lot more fun and games for all! Boy howdy!

Yeah… they suck… but-

They’re visible. Which is better than what any third party “candidate” has been doing. Speaking of, what’s Mr. West and Mrs. Stein been up to since November?

I guess all those important issues only mattered if they got elected.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 7 points 6 days ago (2 children)

That's a fair point about the minor parties. Then again, I have seen Libertarians try to do valuable things at the local or state level in various places. I've never seen a Green Party candidate for school board or city council.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Nope. I haven’t either. Last I heard, Stein was cashing in on a few dinner speeches.

What’s funny though? We tried to warn all the freshmen that this has been done before by the exact same clowns in the exact same makeup in elections past…

They were too busy calling us names to bother listening. And apparently, now- they expect us to kiss their asses while we work with them on their grassroots movement bullshit to bail us out of the problems they wouldn’t even do the bare minimum to help stop.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I made the mistake of voting for her in 2016, before I realized that Nader didn't really retire. He left in disgust at what the party became. Granted, I live in NJ, so my vote basically meant nothing, but it's still a mistake.

That was before Stein's theatrics about the debates, too. How anyone could seriously support her after that confounds me.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

All it took was a movement they could all anger each other with. That’s all it takes every election. It’s something that gives them all a reason to be manipulated.

The right’s best tactic is dividing the left. They’d never win against a unified front.

Lucky for them there won’t ever be one. These clowns are already warming up their pitchforks and templating their “I won’t vote for [bLuEMaGA cAnDiDaTE]” memes. Hell, a lot of them are calling AOC a centrist. LMAO!

i mean how else are people going to vote for having your community invaded by bears

Im convinced posts like this are pro trump propaganda

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 30 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It is possible, and encouraged, to call your party out on their bullshit. Criticism is a very important tool in democracy.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 26 points 6 days ago (10 children)

Did you miss the whole debacle of "we'll never cave without ACA subsidies being extended" immediately preceding caving without extended ACA subsidies? That's far from the only example of such behavior. In fact, I'd say the only anamoly in that situation was the strong stance Dems took before reverting to their usual cowardly selves.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

TBF... it's looking like there will in fact be a vote to extend, which will likely pass thanks to some R that are not fully MAGA

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

am I missing this article, last I heard, trump was talking about extending the cuts... followed by Mike Johnson saying no we aren't interested in that at all.

Which then I guess further follows up the question, does Mike Johnson even need to bring it up to a vote at all? Like hypothetically even if they whip the votes and get 10 republicans to defect... would anything actually force johnson to bring it to a vote at all?

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

My gift, fellow Fedizen

Once Foes of Obamacare, Some Republicans Push to Protect It Nov. 25, 2025

A small cadre of politically vulnerable Republicans in Congress is breaking with the party to push for the extension of health care tax credits for a program the G.O.P. reviles.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 2 points 5 days ago

awesome good to know, fingers crossed this is actually a direction that may happen. still have to question if it's enough to force johnson to bring it to the vote, and possibly needs a fillibuster breaking majority. (before we even talk about the senate).

Officials are actively going against MAGA, esp. ICE, right now. It's not all just tweets. But Trump won twice with the help of social media; other parties embrace it, too. Hopefully in a better way (and I'm not sure Gavin Newsom's is it).

My favorite scathing TMBG snippet:

Where your eyes don't go a filthy scarecrow waves its broomstick arms
And does a parody of each unconscious thing you do
When you turn around to look it's gone behind you
On its face it's wearing your confused expression
Where your eyes don't go

Where your eyes don't go a part of you is hovering
It's a nightmare that you'll never be discovering

It's a simple message, and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells so the room must listen to me:

Filibuster vigilantly.

Sadly, DNC leaderships VCRs are still flashing 12:00, so it's unlikely they'll ever see stuff like this. The interwebs are a dog gone mystery to them.

Can Democrats in the US do anything to stop it? I was under the impression they don't have enough representatives to stop it

Trump could easily override them, but they should still do more.

At the end of the day, their strategy is to give in to the demands Trump in the hopes that it prevents him from destroying their precious institutions. They hope to be able to take over from an unpopular Republican party after Trump dies without really undoing the damage he's doing. The problem with this approach is that it will prevent the system from needing to be properly rebuilt, effectively legalizing most of his abuses of power and prolonging the instability of our country. A big part of this will be institutionalizing the blatant corruption and oligarchy while further rigging elections to make it impossible for popular movements to ever legally gain power.

A Gavin Newsom or Pete Buttigieg presidency will see them ruling as a weaker feudal king than Trump, but only to promote business activity and interests. Relying on the honeymoon period following Trump's removal, they will position themselves as the saviors of "democracy," yet they will do little to actually undo a lot of the election rigging that Republicans are installing right now. They will suppress workers rights and throw the most disposable minorities under the bus, deregulating and burning through all the goodwill they have. They parade the corpse of liberalism around as long as fools will believe it, but it will have been long dead.

In order for actual liberal democracy to exist again in this country, the liberals would need to show a backbone and resist Trump no matter how much he destroys institutions. They would need to risk temporary jail time and potential assassination to invigorate long term support for a rebuilt American dream. Instead they're showing that they never cared about liberal ideals, only the goodwill liberalism afforded their power.

There were the government shutdowns but they always cave. Then there's getting arrested while protesting (not breaking the law BTW, just straight up intimidation), which is honestly the bare minimum at this point. Look up Kat Abu for an example.

"Don't, don't, don't let's start

This is the worst part

Could believe for all the world

That you're my precious little girl

But don't, don't, don't let's start

I've got a weak heart

And I don't get around how you get around"

I built a little empire out of some crazy garbage

Called "The Blood of The Exploited Working Class"

But they've overcome their shyness

Now they're calling me "Your Highness"

And the world screams, "Kiss me, son of god!"

.

I destroyed the bond of friendship and respect

Between the only people left who'd even look me in the eye

Now I laugh and make a fortune off the same ones that I tortured

And the world screams, "Kiss me, son of god!"

.

I look like Jesus, so they say

But Mr. Jesus is very far away

Now you're the only one here who can tell me if it's true

That you love me, and I love me

Particle Man, Particle Man,

Doing the things a particle can,

What's he like? It's not important,

Particle Man

.

Triangle Man, Triangle Man

Triangle Man hates Particle Man

They have a fight, Triangle wins,

Triangle Man

The second one isn't even satire. That's the top of what is breaking my heart right now.
