Thanks, Obama.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 2 points 49 minutes ago

Algae are cool.

[–] Kcap@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Chlorophyll? More like Bore-o-phyll!

[–] Impractical_Island@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Shit is as green as my dick after a night of watching my man Randy Savage with the missus, and the obvious aftermath of such things.

[–] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 12 points 6 hours ago

It's green because Iran's flag has green and Iran's a winner.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 29 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Next week these idiots will be saying "It's supposed to be green" so that dont have to admit they voted for a fool.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 6 points 6 hours ago

Why would they wait until next week?

Isn't it a bit late for St. Patrick's Day?

[–] subverted_per@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 6 hours ago

Or it's early.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 51 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

The other bodies of water in this picture are what interest me. Both the Pond and the Tidal Basin look bluer, showing what it would have looked like. Now it's the color of grift.

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 26 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

They're probably also deeper, which both provides a less ideal environment for algae to grow and also looks bluer despite algae that might be growing. The water in the tidal basin is also moving and has water naturally flowing in and out. The reflecting pool does not have that and needs to be shallow so that water movement is minimized to create the reflection it's supposed to give.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Yes the Basin is more "wild," fair enough.

The Pond is also shallow and manmade, with a similar water system, so it's a truer comparison.

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 1 points 5 minutes ago

I'm not sure if it changed, but the reflecting pool was modified to be fed by the tidal basin during Obama's presidency.

looks like a mini-putt, with a giant hole on the end that he'd still miss by a mile.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 31 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Algae produce a shitload of oxygen, so it's super eco-friendly

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 11 points 8 hours ago

i guess that’s 1 way to get him to do whatever it takes to change it

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 58 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

The algae multiplied. Who could have predicted they would do that? It was an entirely novel strategy.

[–] Town@lemmy.zip 10 points 8 hours ago

I don't know what you mean, he stopped testing and the numbers went down.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

How could algae have learned to multiply? We're eliminating the department of education to prevent problems like this from reoccurring in the future.

[–] siravious@lemmy.world 36 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I’d rather vote for the algae too

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago

At least Algae is useful.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago

So painting a pool a dark color which will increase the water temperature encouraged algae to grow? You'd have to be some kinda scientist or psychic to know that would happen.

What do you expect when you give the contract for installing the water purification system to a company called Greenwater Services?

[–] cattywampus@lemmy.world 24 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

You're telling me they elected someone not competent and they're shocked he's not competent?

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 25 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Yet still not as shocked as that pool is gonna be.

[–] cattywampus@lemmy.world 7 points 9 hours ago

My daily dose of pun-ishment.

[–] rangber@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Can someone confirm if the pool was being fine before the "renovation"?

[–] VelvetPinkOtter123@lemmy.world 14 points 5 hours ago

It was not fine

The pool has had a history of bad filtration and would cost a lot to fix it, which is why it was never really fixed

On one hand it looks like shit but on the other hand who cares? Big picture, this isn't a major issue worth sinking a bunch of money into

But Obama did try to invest some money into fixing it but that was also a failure in that nothing really changed. Obama spent "a lot" of money and got basically no results

So Trump, trying to be better than Obama, has taken it upon himself to fix it. Except, Trump can't seem to do literally anything right and so now it's actually worse than it was

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

Are those green patches of grass to the north the patches that had "8647"?

Can’t wait for the Wikipedia page.

[–] NotAnotherLemmyUser@lemmy.world 14 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I didn't see a dedicated page to this incident yet, but there is a section specifically for this event here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Memorial_Reflecting_Pool

[–] vpol@feddit.uk 14 points 9 hours ago

Definitely should be a conflict-style page about algae vs Trump war.

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Yet another symbol of the state of the U.S. The MAGA folks are pretty good at that. Take this ridiculous military parade, the absurd cage fight in front of the White House, that goddamn ballroom—and the list goes on and on....

It’s truly unbelievable that, with all this stupid nonsense, they don’t realize how ridiculous and dim-witted they are. But hey, what else can you expect from this clown show....

In a way, it’s almost a good thing for the world, because it really makes it crystal clear just how uncivilized these wretched fascists are.

[–] Marthirial@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

That's what's happens when the swamp promises to drain the swamp. MORE SWAMP MOFOS!

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 4 points 9 hours ago

Time to pay the algae reparations buddy.

[–] corbindallas@fedinsfw.app 5 points 10 hours ago

alge is always greener on the other side
